Chapter 1809: Making Amends
Seemingly ignoring their words, Lucian sipped his tea, focusing on work-related matters on his phone. Archie and Benny, however, exchanged glances before turning to Roxanne in unison after learning the gifts were for them. They were bewildered. "Grandma was very cold toward us before," Archie or Benny said, "She even said we weren't Daddy's children. But now she's giving us clothes and toys?"
Estella's curiosity was piqued. She approached and asked, "Grandma, you only bought gifts for Archie and Benny? You didn't get anything for me?"
Sonya, immensely awkward, managed only to respond to Estella. Smiling, she hastily explained, "I'll get you something another day. I went to a boys' clothing store today."
Estella nodded, then asked, "Grandma, so are you willing to acknowledge Archie and Benny now? Did you realize they're looking more and more like Daddy?"
A child's words, innocent yet truthful. Sonya, always reluctant to accept the truth, found herself scrutinizing Archie and Benny. Indeed, they were becoming more like Lucian, especially their eyesโalmost replicas of a younger Lucian.
Sonya smiled and beckoned the boys. "Archie, Benny, come try on these clothes."
The boys shook their heads. "Mommy will buy them for us. Thank you!" Their rejection was blunt, devoid of any greeting.
Tears welled in Sonya's eyes, yet she maintained her smile. "Yes, your mommy takes good care of you. I'm the one who isn't qualified to be your grandmother. I'm at fault."
Roxanne's heart softened. She nodded at the boys. "Go on. Try the clothes Grandma bought. Remember to thank her!"
Initially hesitant, the boys eventually agreed cheerfully. Lucian, slightly surprised, glanced at Roxanne. She, having given her approval, scooped up Estella and headed upstairs to help her wash up.
Sonya froze, a complex expression crossing her face as she watched Roxanne leave. Roxanne's stance was simple: the children were undeniably Farwell grandchildren, forever bound to Sonya. She saw no need to suppress that connection. As long as Sonya was willing to be close to them, it didn't matter to Roxanne, even if Sonya continued to deny her as her daughter-in-law.
Snapping out of it, Sonya helped Archie and Benny into the new clothes, repeatedly asking if they liked them.
"Yes! We like them! Thank you, Grandma!"
"Grandma, these clothes probably cost a lot! Thank you, Grandma!"
Hearing them call her "Grandma," Sonya trembled. Regret washed over her. Faced with their innocent gazes, guilt and pain overwhelmed her, bringing tears to her eyes.
Lucian, however, simply said to the boys, "I'm going to the study. Remember to shower and go to bed on time."
They nodded, returning to the toys.
"Oh my gosh, Benny, look! It's Evangelion-01! Grandma, where did you get this? I looked everywhere!"
"Archie, look! Gundam! A collectible! Thank you so much, Grandma!"
Box after box of figurines elicited excited exclamations. Listening to their joy, Sonya felt a sense of relief.
"I made too many mistakes, and I'll need time to make up for them."
