Chapter 1811: Did Not Know How To Cherish

Elektra was puzzled. Mrs. Farwell was always so particular about etiquette. Wasn't wearing a face mask while receiving guests impolite? Perhaps Sonya's informality was a deliberate attempt to connect with her.

Noticing Elias nearby, Elektra laughed. "Mr. Farwell," she said, "I brought some fruit. Let me wash it for you!"

Elias waved her off, offering to do it himself. As he turned, he realized Elektra was using this as an excuse to leave him alone with Sonya. He hoped Sonya wouldn't misinterpret their conversation and repeat Aubree's mistakes.

After Elias entered the kitchen, Elektra smiled at Sonya. Her goal was simple: to orchestrate an opportunity for Lucian and Sonya to spend time together. Sheโ€™d devised the perfect excuse.

"Mrs. Farwell," Elektra began slowly, "I heard Mr. Valentine, Lucian's and my former middle school principal, is seriously ill. Possibly cancer. He's a kind man, but poor and delaying treatment due to lack of funds. Could you help me explain this to Lucian? I thought perhaps he might visit Mr. Valentine with me and contribute to his treatment."

Elektra believed Sonya would understand her true intention: to create a chance for Lucian and her to connect. She wasn't worried about Sonya's refusal.

Sonya's reply stunned Elektra. "Is that so? You should help him, of course. However, I'm busy with health examinations, and Lucian is likely preoccupied with work. You could ask him directly. I'm sure he'll find the time."

It was a subtle rejection. Sonya neither agreed nor offered to help convey the message.

A frown flickered across Elektra's face, quickly masked. "Oh, of course," she smoothly changed the subject. "Mrs. Farwell, what's wrong with your health?"

Internally, she pondered Sonya's response. Her attitude seemed to have shifted; she wasn't as enthusiastic as before.

"It's nothing, just routine checkups," Sonya replied with a smile, her expression hidden by the mask.

After a brief conversation, Elektra left, resigned to asking Lucian herself.

After her departure, Elias returned with fruit. "You finally learned your lesson," he said, nodding.

Sonya remained silent, reflecting on his previous words. Had her misguided support of Aubree led to a cascade of errors? Would things be different if she'd acted differently? Would the Pearson family be in such a state?

A wave of guilt washed over her. She looked at Elias. "Elias," she asked, "do I truly have severe mental flaws? I'm considering religion. What do you think?"

"It's wonderful you're seeking a fresh start. Religion is good, as long as you're sincere, it's never too late!"

Elias fed her a piece of fruit. Despite the mask, Sonya couldn't contain her tears.

From her perspective, Elias's affection had been overwhelming, pushing her to extremes. Sadly, she hadn't known how to cherish his love.
