Chapter 1812: Your Daughter Is Unworthy
On the second day, after careful consideration, Elektra called Lucian and explained the situation, omitting her desire to visit the principal alone. Lucian readily agreed. "Okay, we can arrange a time to visit the principal together. Let me check with Roxanne; she can examine the principal. As you know, her medical skills are excellent."
Elektra stammered her thanks. "That would be wonderful! Ms. Jarvis is so skilled; perhaps she can treat the principal. Please let me know when the date is confirmed. I'm available anytime."
"All right."
After the call, Elektra's face fell. She couldn't bear witnessing Lucian and Roxanne's affection. Annoyance washed over her. "I'm always one step behind," she muttered. "Why don't you give up, Elektra Lane? Even Mrs. Farwell's attitude has changed. You won't win. Isn't it better to wish them well?" She reflected, "Why am I so self-absorbed? If I'd been bolder in school, would I be with Lucian now?"
After a long time, Elektra calmed down and went downstairs. Her parents, Richard Lane and Mathilda Suvex, noticed her listlessness. Elektra reported successfully delivering the specialty products to the Farwells the previous day, then picked up her phone and remained silent.
Mathilda smiled. "Today, your uncle introduced us to a young man who recently returned from abroad. Do you have time to meet him?" Her voice was gentle, wary of her daughter's reaction.
Elektra's face froze, her eyes blazing. "Mom, can't you give it a rest? Three dates a week is excessive. Honestly, these men are all exceptional, but I don't like them. I'm not worthy of them, okay?"
Flustered, Mathilda looked at her husband.
Richard frowned sternly. "How can you speak to your mother like that? We've told you to forget about Lucian. He came to explain the marriage certificate incident. You willingly agreed to help him. It's impossible for you two. Ms. Jarvis already has three children with him. What more do you need to give up on him?"
Elektra's anger flared. She gave her father a cold look and left the room without a word.
"That brat!" Mathilda quickly attempted to soothe her husband.
Elektra felt suffocated; no one understood her. The men she met on blind dates were no match for Lucian. Rationally, she knew being with Lucian was impossible, yet she couldn't control her impulses.
She drove her sports car and contacted friends to meet at a bar.
Meanwhile, Roxanne, her face alight with joy, left the laboratory for her office. Peregrine soon followed, equally elated.
"We did it, Ms. Jarvis! You're amazing. This substance has increased our medicine's effectiveness several times. We can use a special declaration channel to get the new drug to market quickly," he exclaimed.
Roxanne nodded. "Thank you for leading the researchers day and night. You're the pillar of our institute!"
The old man, embarrassed, replied, "I don't deserve the credit. It's all your abilities, Ms. Jarvis. Haha, but either way, we're helping patients. Great work!"
"Yes, there are other projects. Let's work hard together!" she replied enthusiastically.
The research institute had flourished since Peregrine joined. Roxanne believed she would create more drugs and live up to her mentor's expectations.
