Chapter 1814: Send Her Back

“Okay, I shall accept it. What can I say? I have a wealthy best friend.” After Madilyn regained her composure, she readily accepted the offer.

Roxanne was pleased. This was what best friends should be—they understood each other implicitly. Hesitation only created distance.

Of course, Roxanne had a plan. She smirked and teased, “Hold on, you need to fulfill my condition to earn the mansion!”

Madilyn rolled her eyes. “I knew it! There's always a catch. What do you want me to do?”

Both men were curious about the conditions.

“It’s not difficult. You shall be the next hospital director. How about that? You can handle it, right?” Roxanne asked with a grin.

Madilyn was speechless. A promotion? A significant one at that. She worked at the hospital under Roxanne's research institute, enjoying a high salary and benefits. While the workload was demanding, she was happy. She never expected this responsibility; the director position had been vacant for a long time. She felt overwhelmed; this meant a substantial increase in responsibility.

“Are you afraid to take on the role?” Roxanne asked, noticing Madilyn's hesitation.

The three children, upon hearing the news, urged her to accept. “Aunt Madilyn, please agree!” Estella innocently asked, “Is a director more powerful than the head of a kindergarten?”

Lucian and Jonathan exchanged glances. They hadn't anticipated Roxanne entrusting such an important position to Madilyn. This hospital was the flagship hospital of the research institute, carrying significant social responsibilities.

Madilyn deliberated. Seeing Roxanne's expectant gaze, she gritted her teeth and declared, “Okay, I’ll do it! I won’t let you down. I’ll manage the hospital to the best of my ability!”

“Okay, then it’s settled. I also plan to get you a car. And you can choose your own assistant.” Roxanne generously offered further support.

What began as a celebratory banquet became Madilyn's recognition ceremony. She would ultimately elevate the hospital to the pinnacle of regional private hospitals.

After a while, the children grew tired, and the banquet concluded. Exhilarated, Madilyn indulged in alcohol, her face flushed. Roxanne supported her unsteady steps.

Lucian instructed Jonathan, “Escort Ms. Xander home. Don't drive; use the driver.”

Roxanne, after Jonathan agreed, transferred Madilyn to his care. “Hold onto her. I need to carry Essie. Look at her; she’s barely keeping her eyes open!” After handing Madilyn over, Roxanne picked up Estella, who immediately fell asleep upon smelling her mother.

Jonathan carefully supported Madilyn. “Ms. Xander, are you alright? I’ll take you home!”

Madilyn, still somewhat conscious, noticed Roxanne’s wink and sensed something was amiss; her heart pounded.

Lucian, carrying Archie and Benny, quickly left after signaling to Roxanne. Their transport had arrived; they quickly loaded the children and departed.

By the time Jonathan reached Madilyn’s doorstep, their friends were gone.
