Chapter 1838: Not Used To It
Early in the morning, Sonya arrived at the mansion, busying herself with helping the children wash and eat breakfast. She refused any assistance from the servants, insisting on doing everything herself. Her burn from the previous night had completely healed, a fact that impressed her with her daughter-in-law's medical skills. Lucian didn't object to his mother's ministrations and even allowed her to take the children to school.
When Roxanne awoke, she was experiencing menstrual cramps and remained in bed for a while. Upon Sonya's return, she immediately recognized Roxanne's discomfort.
โRoxanne, since you're in pain, why don't you take the day off and rest? I'll make you a nourishing soup!โ Sonya offered, hurrying downstairs to the kitchen before Roxanne could reply.
Shortly after, Lucian called, inquiring about Roxanne's pain and suggesting painkillers.
โI'm a doctor myself; I know what to do,โ Roxanne replied. โYou can focus on work. It's just that Mrs. Farwell made soup last night, and now she wants to make soup for me again. I'm afraid she'll get burned again!โ
Lucian chuckled faintly. โRoxanne, just let her. This is her karma!โ
โDon't speak ill of your mother,โ Roxanne retorted. โI'll take care of myself. Once my period is over, let's take our wedding photos.โ
She still couldn't bring herself to call Sonya โMom,โ but Lucian remained silent.
After showering and preparing herself, Roxanne found the pain had subsided. She slowly descended the stairs to find Sonya emerging from the kitchen, a smile on her face. โIt's almost done. This soup is something I've been drinking since I was young; it's very effective for cramps. It'll nourish you!โ
Roxanne nodded, inquiring about Sonya's burn. Sonya displayed her healed hand, again praising Roxanne's skills and mentioning other women's interest in the burn remedy.
โWhy isn't this medicine on the market? It would be a bestseller!โ Sonya exclaimed.
Roxanne patiently explained, โThe ingredients are rare, and the production process isn't suitable for mass production. I only made a small batch for the children. But from now on, I will stock up more for the family!โ
โI see. Good medicine is hard to make. Stay seated, the soup will be ready soon. It's not greasy and is suitable for breakfast,โ Sonya said, returning to the kitchen.
Shortly, she presented a cooled bowl of soup. Afterward, an awkward silence settled between them. Sonya asked, โDo you need anything else? I can go and buy it for you!โ
Roxanne shook her head. โNo, thank you, Mrs. Farwell. This soup is delicious!โ
Roxanne savored the fragrant soup, complimenting Sonyaโs cooking. Sonya, somewhat embarrassed, offered to tidy Lucian's study.
As Sonya ascended the stairs, Roxanne finally relaxed. Sonya's unexpected politeness and gentleness created a unique, if uncomfortable, dynamic.
