Chapter 1898

Three minutes felt like two cups of coffee to Lucian. But to Jonathan, those three minutes stretched into an eternity. He repeatedly glanced at his watch, forcing himself to quell the swirling thoughts in his head.

โ€œLucian, Iโ€ฆโ€

โ€œHold on!โ€ Lucian instantly raised a hand, silencing Jonathan before he could finish. Heโ€™d noticed Jonathanโ€™s precise timekeeping, down to the second. Lucianโ€™s casual use of โ€œthree minutesโ€ had been taken quite literally. He couldnโ€™t help but feel pity for Jonathanโ€™s apparent obsessive-compulsive tendencies.

โ€œJonathan, before you decide, I want you to know Iโ€™ll support you unconditionally, regardless of your choice. Do you understand?โ€ Lucianโ€™s gaze softened.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Jonathan nodded, forcing a weak smile. โ€œLucian, Iโ€™m feeling drained lately. Iโ€™d like to step back for a while.โ€ He looked up, seeking Lucianโ€™s reaction.

Seeing Lucianโ€™s nod of approval, Jonathan continued, โ€œI appreciate Roxanneโ€™s kindness. Perhaps you could give me some time. I think I need a break. Is that alright?โ€

โ€œOf course,โ€ Lucian readily agreed, pouring Jonathan a cup of coffee. โ€œListen, Jonathan. From now on, feel free to express any opinions you have to me. Do you hear me?โ€

Jonathan was startled, wondering if heโ€™d done something wrong.

โ€œJust by looking at your expression, I know youโ€™re overthinking again,โ€ Lucian sighed. โ€œSince when did you become like this? Did it start when I took over Farwell Group? Youโ€™re so cautious, constantly walking on eggshells.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t deny the value of caution, but itโ€™s unhealthy to constantly suppress your feelings. Thereโ€™s a limit to how much anyone can endure.โ€

โ€œJonathan, from today onwards, take a well-deserved break. I wonโ€™t bother you unless itโ€™s urgent. Relinquish your responsibilities temporarily. Iโ€™ll tell Cayden to report to you; let him handle everything.โ€ Lucian stood, patting Jonathanโ€™s shoulder.

As Jonathan left the mansion, a long-absent peace settled over him. Perhaps itโ€™s time to address my illness seriously. I should talk to Madilyn. He immediately drove to the hospital.

Back at the mansion, Roxanne awoke after Jonathanโ€™s departure. Lucian relayed Jonathanโ€™s decision, to her surprise.

โ€œItโ€™s alright. I respect his decision,โ€ Roxanne replied.

โ€œActually, I have someone in mind who could also fill this role,โ€ Lucian said, a suitable candidate suddenly occurring to him.

Roxanne frowned, pondering. People like Jonathan and Elektraโ€”familiar with the corporate world, full of energy and creativityโ€”were rare. Such talent was often cultivated from a young age within the environment of prestigious families, who emphasized inheritance and the generational transmission of knowledge and wealth.

โ€œThe person I have in mind is James Lann. Heโ€™s more than just a psychologist. He excelled in business school before pursuing psychology. That guyโ€™s a genius.โ€

However, the thought of James instantly filled Lucian with irritation.
