Chapter 1901: His True Self

After listening to Jonathan recount his past, Madilyn remained silent. Her heart ached, and though she longed to offer encouragement, the right words eluded her. In today's society, most adults carry some degree of psychological burden stemming from childhood experiences. As the saying goes, a beautiful childhood is a lifelong blessing, but a difficult one takes a lifetime to heal.

Finally, Jonathan smiled faintly, a visible weight lifting from his shoulders. The sight stunned Madilyn; it was like witnessing a child's first smileโ€”pure and innocent. Moreover, he looked breathtaking. She stared, her cheeks warming.

"Is something wrong?" he asked bluntly.

Quickly averting her gaze, she stammered, "No, no. Nothing's wrong. You feel better now, don't you?"

He nodded, his eyes brighter. "You're right. That was the first time I'd said all that aloud. Thank you for listening."

Unconsciously, he reached out, as if searching for something. His hand found hers. Stunned, but not pulling away, Madilyn felt her face flush crimson.

"I've decided," he announced. "I'm taking a vacation to confront my thoughts and work through this."

Overwhelmed by his raw emotion, she remained still, allowing him to hold her hand. She understood; despite his accomplishments and businesses, his heart yearned for something moreโ€”a passion Lucian lacked. Humans need passion and purpose; otherwise, success brings little happiness.

At last, she found her voice. "Jonathan, I'll support you, no matter what. Just keep trying, and call if you need me."

Surprise flickered across Jonathan's face before he released her hand, a childlike joy replacing his usual demeanor. Madilyn inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.

"After Lucian's wedding, I plan to travel domestically, then take my time finding what I enjoy," he explained. "If I still want to manage a company, I will. Things are less hectic now that the company is on track."

Emboldened by her support, he spoke openly of his plans, and she listened intently.

"Madilyn, your passion for medicine is admirable," he said. "It's why you've thrived as hospital director, and I respect that."

His praise was long overdue, and she smiled knowingly.

"If I'm on leave, I could join your search," she offered tentatively, revealing her true feelings.

His eyes lit up. "Apply for leave! Roxanne will understand. I didn't expect Lucian to agree, but give it a shot!"

"I'll try," she replied. "I'm most excited about Xendale; let me know when you're going." Anticipation bloomed in her heart.

He no longer projected his usual stern aura; a more childlike, genuine Jonathan emerged. This was his true self.
