Chapter 1945: Internal Conflict

Shawn arrived at a private hospital with Coralie. As their car stopped, a black Mercedes-Benz pulled up in front. Furrowing his brow, Shawn saw Jonas. Several bodyguards quickly surrounded Shawn's car, clearly on high alert.

Coralie, sitting in the backseat, initially prepared to complain about her brother derailing her plans. However, witnessing the scene, she quickly composed herself. "What's Jonas doing, Shawn?" she asked.

"What else? I broke my confinement order," Shawn replied. His failed investment had caused significant family losses, resulting in a year-long confinement in the north.

"Seems Jonas is using this as an opportunity to settle the score," Coralie said, a cold glint in her eyes. The younger Crawfords fiercely competed for the family's headship, and Shawn, previously the most prominent contender, had lost his standing after his disastrous investment. Now, the opportunity fell to Jonas.

Jonas casually exited his vehicle, a mocking smile playing on his lips, while Shawn maintained an indifferent expression. "You broke the rules, cousin," Jonas said smugly. "You weren't allowed to leave for a year, yet here you are. Expect a few extra days of confinement upon your return."

"My sister had an accident," Shawn responded calmly. "I came to visit. Is that prohibited?"

"Of course not," Jonas replied, his tone odd. "I'm just reminding you that you could have asked for my help. Is your sister alright?" The insincerity stung Shawn.

Coralie stormed out of the car, confronting Jonas with displeasure. "I'm fine," she said. "And Shawn will be returning home soon. You didn't need to come here personally. Are you here to warn us?"

"Why would you think that?" Jonas asked. "We're family. Let's not act like enemies. I even considered avenging you both after your loss to Lucian." His gaze lingered briefly on Coralie, betraying a clear lack of concern for her well-being.

"Really?" Shawn responded, amused. "I'd appreciate your success, but I'd also warn you against facing Lucian with your current capabilities." He'll likely fare worse than I did. Good riddance. Jonas and his father have always been a thorn in my side. If I let them suffer, perhaps they'll finally leave me alone.

"How kind," Jonas said. "But you needn't worry about my chances against Lucian. You should return north immediately. Don't create problems for me. As for Coralie, I'll help care for her."

Shawn was surprised by Jonas's lack of anger. He's still pushing me home, though. He's clearly worried I'll interfere with his plans in Horington.

Shawn nodded and turned to his sister. "Don't worry, Coralie. Stay at the hospital. If you need anything, tell Jonas. I can't stay long, so I'm leaving now."

"I'd have been more touched if you'd not visited!" Coralie exclaimed, though she still faced Jonas with a cold expression. Despite their disagreements, she would stand by her brother against their shared adversaries. Jonas had always found fault with them since childhood.
