Listen to this chapter:

Aubree, Gina, and Samuel reached a consensus: Sonya would resolve the matter. After all, Sonya was the most supportive of Aubree's marriage into the Farwell family, and Lucian still largely obeyed her. Considering this, Gina immediately asked Sonya to meet.

"You're here too, Aubree? What would you like to eat? It's my treat," Sonya said, oblivious, smiling as she sat down.

Aubree's smile was strained. "Thank you, Mrs. Farwell, but I don't have much of an appetite." She despondently lowered her head, twining her fingers together in her lap.

Concerned, Sonya asked, "Are you upset? What happened?"

Aubree only pursed her lips and shook her head. Sonya looked at Gina, bewildered.

Gina's smile was equally forced. She opened Twitter on her phone. Without searching, she found a trending news report, tapped it, and showed Sonya. "Look at this headline."

Sonya's heart sank at their expressions, but she took the phone. A smile bloomed on her face as she read the article. "I knew they'd be a perfect couple! Lucian will adore Aubree after the wedding."

She found their expressions odd, but couldn't understand why. She didn't even realize the woman in the photo wasn't Aubree.

Suppressing her dismay, Gina glanced at her daughter and said hesitantly, "Butโ€ฆAubree wasn't sick last night. She was home all night."

Sonya's smile faded. Aubree was home last night. The woman in the photo wasn't her. Who was it?

She stared intently at the photo, a suspicion forming.

It was unclear if her suspicion was correct, but the more she looked at the woman, the more she believed it was Roxanne.

Forcing a smile, Gina said, "I'm worried there's a misunderstanding. Does Lucian have a cousin or something? Otherwise, this is unacceptable."

Aubree finally lifted her head, waiting with an aggrieved yet hopeful expression for Sonya's answer.

Seeing her prospective daughter-in-law so distressed, Sonya felt immense guilt as she looked again at the photo of her son with another woman. She couldn't bring herself to reveal the woman's identity to Aubree.

Finally, she said, "Regardless, the wedding news is out. This scandal reflects poorly on our family. Don't worry, Aubree. I'll talk to Lucian. This won't happen again!"

Aubree's gaze darkened slightly, but she nodded submissively.

Sonya left abruptly, bidding them farewell.

Aubree's expression immediately darkened. Back at the Pearson residence, she reread the news report, focusing on the comments:

  • "Wow, Mr. Farwell's bridal carry was perfect! His fiancรฉe is so lucky!"
  • "The photo resolution is bad, but her aura and figure are incredible! As expected of Mr. Farwell's woman!"

The comments praised Lucian's attentiveness and their compatibility.

As she read more, Aubree slammed the phone's lock screen. The screen went black. A moment later, a thud echoed in the room. The phone lay cracked on the floor.
