Roxanne had just finished work when she overheard employees at the research institute discussing Lucian and Aubree's marriage.
โMr. Farwell is so attentive! He took care of his fiancรฉe all night. My boyfriend would never do that.โ
โAnd heโs handsome and rich! His fiancรฉe is beautiful, too. She looks a lot like Dr. Jarvis.โ
Similar comments filled the air as the researchers chatted while walking. Seeing Roxanne, they said goodbye. โSee you tomorrow, Dr. Jarvis.โ
Roxanne smiled and responded. However, she was puzzled by their conversation. Lucian had been with his fiancรฉe all night? He had been with her all night. When did he see Aubree?
Just then, Colby approached. โAre you free for dinner tonight?โ
Snapping back to reality, Roxanne apologized. โI need to pick up my kids from kindergarten. Another time, perhaps. When the project ends, Iโll treat everyone to dinner.โ
Disappointment flickered in Colbyโs eyes, but he said nothing. They discussed the project as they left the institute.
Roxanne didn't drive, so she hailed a taxi. Colbyโs car pulled up beside her. โDidnโt you drive?โ
Roxanne shook her head.
โWhere are you going? Iโll give you a ride. Iโm free tonight, and taxis are hard to find here.โ Colby smiled warmly.
Roxanne hesitated, glanced at the time, and realized it was time to pick up Archie and Benny. She accepted the ride.
As soon as she settled in, Harvey called, asking about the project's progress. She gave him a brief update.
After hanging up, a push notification appeared. The headline read: โMr. Farwell rushed his fiancรฉe to the hospital last night and stayed with her.โ
Remembering last night and the employees' conversation, she instinctively clicked the link. Two blurry photos appeared.
She froze. Even without zooming in, she recognized herself as the woman in the photos. The first showed her delirious with a fever, likely when Lucian carried her from the car to the hospital. The second showed her getting into a car with Estella, Lucian beside her.
She had no idea who took the photos or how they went unnoticed. The paparazzo clearly mistook her for Aubree.
Fortunately, the photos were very blurry, only recognizable to those who knew her well.
Frowning, Roxanne scrolled through the overwhelmingly envious comments about Lucianโs attentiveness. Ironically, she felt anything but happy.
After confirming no one realized the woman wasn't Aubree, she put away her phone, feeling a mix of emotions. She decided against clarifying the misunderstanding, finding the whole situation rather amusing.
