Chapter 2046: Why Don't I Remember?
Elektra noticed Roxanne subconsciously keeping her right hand over her abdomen. "Congratulations on your pregnancy, Ms. Jarvis," she commented. "You and Lucian make a perfect match!"
Everyone was surprised; this was unlike Elektra's usual behavior. Roxanne understood the implication: Elektra was acknowledging her place with Lucian. "Thank you," Roxanne replied evenly. "It's twins, so the house will be exceedingly lively."
"That's wonderful!" Elektra exclaimed sincerely. Then, abruptly, she added, "I'm truly sorry for my past mistakes, Ms. Jarvis. I wronged you, and I sincerely apologize." Her expression was grave and solemn.
Roxanne, despite some reservations, replied, "It's okay. That was all in the past."
Lucian remained silent, while Jonathan nodded in apparent support of Elektra. They then engaged in casual conversation. Elektra outlined her plans to start a business, receiving everyone's support. Jonathan received a call from Madilyn and left to make wedding preparations. James drove Elektra home.
After everyone departed, Roxanne turned to Lucian. "It seems Elektra has truly changed," she mused. "Otherwise, she never would have sought me out."
"For the best," Lucian replied cautiously.
Roxanne smirked. "You don't need to be so nervous. I trust you. Elektra probably doesn't like you anymore. Don't worry; you're still childhood friends; you don't need to restrain yourselves."
Lucian nodded. "I understand my boundaries. Right now, taking care of you is my priority."
During the drive, Elektra glanced at James repeatedly. He frowned, sensing something was amiss. "Is something on my face, Elektra? Stubble? A pimple?"
Elektra panicked, then quickly recovered. "Do you remember when we were young, James? Our houses were next door. You introduced Lucian to me!"
James, focusing on driving, replied without turning, "Yes, I did. You were completely captivated the first time you saw him. Jonathan and I could tell you had a crush." He chuckled teasingly.
Elektra's brow furrowed. "Nonsense! Is that true? Why don't I remember?" Her memory was hazy; she felt she should recall something, but couldn't definitively place it with either James or Lucian.
They discussed the past at length, as if a movie of her memories was playing, revealing more and more details. "Something's wrong with you, Elektra," James said, surprised. "Lucian, Jonathan, and I remember all this. How could you forget? Did something happen during those years abroad?"
This question baffled Elektra. She struggled to recall details, particularly from the first two years of her acquaintance with Lucian. "What's wrong with me? Am I suffering from amnesia?"
