Chapter 2048: Not That Simple

The housekeepers nodded in unison. "Someone came yesterday eveningโ€”a well-dressed middle-aged woman. Mr. Jarvis spoke normally with her at first, but they argued. We aren't sure if he ate anything."

Roxanne immediately knew it was Winnie. So much time had passed, and something bad had happened to Grant soon after he met her. It was clear Winnie was causing trouble.

That btch! Still trying to harm Grant, even now! Well, Grant probably deserves it!*

Roxanne began administering acupuncture. Later, she saw Grant's crimson, swollen face gradually returning to normal. The swelling was due to blood coagulation and reverse flow; a slightly worse situation would have caused his blood to solidify and blacken.

Bold and meticulous, Roxanne instructed the housekeepers to prepare medicine. Grant remained unconscious.

"Winnie poisoned him! Lucian, call the police!" Roxanne exclaimed coldly, leaving the room. She hadn't expected Winnie to be so vicious. Even with Grant's life ending, she couldn't wait to kill him.

Lucian retrieved the house's surveillance footage. He saw Winnie enter the living room, followed by an argument with Grant. Both were agitated, but the audio was unclear.

He questioned the housekeepers again. "We vaguely heard Mr. Jarvis call the woman 'evil' and similar things," one housekeeper said. Another added, after a moment's thought, "They mentioned poisoning. Mr. Jarvis asked her if she'd done it."

A frightening thought struck Lucian. He looked at Roxanne; her expression revealed she hadn't yet grasped the situation. Worried about upsetting her, he decided to approach cautiously.

Roxanne, brow furrowed, was still piecing things together. The recordings showed Grant hadn't drunk anything. How had Winnie poisoned him?

After a pause, Lucian gently pulled her down beside him. "Darling, I have a theory, but you must promise to stay calm."

Roxanne nodded suspiciously.

Lucian continued, "Perhaps Grant discovered something about Winnie and called her to question her. His suspicions were likely correct, threatening Winnie, so she eliminated him."

"What did he guess?" Roxanne froze, sensing her husband's unspoken message.

The housekeepers' words clicked into place, leaving Roxanne speechless. Lucian saw her understanding, fearing her rage.

"Darling, darlingโ€ฆ relax! Please don't get agitated. You're pregnant! That was just a guess!" Lucian quickly reassured her. Though confident in his theory, he needed to calm her.

But he couldn't quell Roxanne's wrath. Resentment and rage filled her face; her chest heaved, her breathing rapid, her eyes blazing.

"That means my mother's death wasn't simple, right?" she choked out, her body trembling.
