Chapter 2057: We Must Act Fast
The funeral was a simple affair. That night, Roxanne watched over her father's body at the Jarvis residence, a heavy weight settling on her chest. Grant's death left her parentless, a profound sadness settling upon her. As a doctor, she had witnessed much loss and often suppressed her emotions, but she couldn't help feeling a deep sense of personal grief in that moment.
After bringing the children home, Lucian returned to the mansion. His gentle gaze lifted Roxanne's spirits, and they sat in silence. As the temperature dropped, Lucian offered her two more jackets.
Later, Elias and Sonya arrived, reassuring the young couple. "Cayden will care for the children, and the bodyguards are watching over them too. Don't worry," they said.
Roxanne was grateful for their support, especially so late at night. However, she suggested, "Dad, Mom, it's too cold here. You should go back. Lucian and I will stay here. After the funeral tomorrow, everything will be over."
Elias and Sonya refused.
Elias declared, "From now on, Sonya and I are your true parents, Roxanne. The Farwell family will always support you!"
Sonya nodded resolutely. "Don't worry. If anyone dares to harm you, they'll be facing the entire Farwell family. I was foolish and made mistakes in the past, but from now on, I'll be a good mother to you."
Roxanne felt her heart torn between bitterness and joy, overwhelmed by a sudden flood of tears. Those words were precisely what she needed to hear.
Seeing her cry, Sonya anxiously handed Roxanne a tissue, carefully wiping her tears. "Why are you crying? Don't be sad, Roxanne. Don't cry anymore. Grant isnโt worth your tears."
"I'm not crying for him. Thank you, Mom and Dad!"
In that moment, Roxanne truly accepted Elias and Sonya as her parents.
Elias approached the altar, gazing at Grant's portrait. He said firmly, "Grant, you were an inadequate father in life, but in death, you did the right thing. Go and face Roxanne's mother in the afterlife. From now on, we, the Farwell family, will care for Roxanne and the children!"
Lucian rose and joined Elias, the two men making a solemn promise to the departed Grant.
A sense of peace and security washed over Roxanne. Exhausted, she leaned on Sonya's shoulder. Sonya patted her arm gently, murmuring, "Don't worry. It's all over nowโฆ"
The familiar gesture reminded Roxanne of her own mother. Perhaps all women become so doting after becoming mothers.
Around five or six in the morning, the funeral vehicles arrived. The family worked tirelessly through the proceedings. By noon, the funeral was complete, and Roxanne held her father's urn. She wondered if her mother would want to be buried with someone like Grant.
She planned to exhume her mother's remains and check for signs of poisoning, reopening the case. Winnie and her family's hasty departure from Llorington indicated time was of the essence.
Roxanne returned to the Jarvis residence, placing her father's ashes there, intending to determine her next steps later.
