Chapter 235: Leaving the Country After Divorce

A sudden phone ringing shattered the tense silence at the dinner table. Lucian, preoccupied with Roxanne's relationship with Larry, answered without looking. A woman's concerned voice filled the receiver.

"Lucian, I heard you went to Bellridge on a business trip. How are things? Have you settled them?" Aubree had visited his office yesterday, only to discover he was in Bellridge after speaking with Sonya. She called early this morning to express her concern, expecting him to ignore her call as usual. His immediate answer surprised her, filling her with delight; she believed he was finally letting go of his prejudices.

Lucian frowned at her voice and glanced subconsciously at Roxanne. Despite their quiet conversation, Roxanne and Larry overheard the call. Seeing this, Lucian immediately told Aubree, "I have to attend to something. I'm hanging up now." He looked up to speak to Roxanne, but saw her stumble, startled. He frowned, quickly standing without ending the call. Roxanne, hurrying to leave, knocked into a chair, letting out a small yelp.

"Be careful!" Lucian, holding his phone in one hand and her wrist in the other, steadied her. Roxanne, thinking he’d hung up, softly thanked him.

Aubree's delight vanished when Lucian said he was ending the call. Before she could respond, she heard a woman's yelp from the other end—a familiar voice. She watched the screen, puzzled that he hadn't hung up. Biting her lip, she remained silent.

Then, she heard Roxanne's thanks. Gritting her teeth, Aubree ended the call, throwing her phone violently onto her bed.

"That btch Roxanne again! I already warned her. And from what I heard, Lucian hung up because of her!" Aubree's face burned with anger. She’d believed Lucian had changed his mind, only to receive this shocking revelation. "That btch is provoking me!"
