Leaving the Country After Divorce, Chapter 237

Aubree arrived in Bellridge at noon. Before reaching the hotel, she called Sonya to locate Lucian. After deplaning, she went straight to the hotel. Upon seeing the hotel entrance, suspicion clouded her face, and she frowned. Given Lucian's status, he should be staying in at least a five-star hotel on business trips. This hotel, while respectable, seemed beneath him. Unlessโ€ฆ his reason for being here was to find that woman.

Aubree's heart sank. Approaching the front desk, she asked, "I'm looking for someone. Could you help me find Lucian Farwell's room number?"

The receptionist started to inquire about their relationship, but Aubree quickly added, "I'm his fiancรฉe. I called him earlier; he told me his room number, but I forgot. I don't want to disturb him. Could you check for me, please?" She offered a polite smile.

The receptionist, having observed Aubree upon her arrival, recognized her as someone important. She readily searched for Lucian's room number.

Delighted, Aubree's smile widened. "He won't be down soon. Could I have his keycard? I'll wait upstairs."

The receptionist hesitated. "I'm sorry, we can't give out guest keycards." Aubree's smile faltered.

"Then, is the room next to his vacant? I'd like to check in there." The receptionist agreed and quickly processed the check-in.

Meanwhile, Roxanne and Larry returned from their morning engagements. After breakfast, work had forced Lucian to leave them. Roxanne felt relieved. With the afternoon free, she'd asked Larry to arrange meetings with the senior colleagues they'd met the previous day to apologize for her abrupt departure. Thankfully, they weren't offended.

They returned to the hotel around noon. Roxanne worried about encountering Lucian. She didn't know how to face him. Returning to the country, she'd expected them to be strangers after six years apart. She hadn't anticipated their current circumstances, nor the drastic change in his attitude towards her. The thought of him made her head ache.

At the hotel entrance, Larry whispered something, but Roxanne, preoccupied, didn't register it.

"Here's your keycard," said the receptionist.

Roxanne looked up, her expression souring as she saw Aubree at the desk. Aubree? Their recent cafรฉ conversation flashed in her mind. She wanted nothing to do with her. Roxanne lowered her gaze, intending to leave quietly.

Larry, noticing her silence, asked, "Roxanne, are you alright?"

His question halted her. Escape was impossible. She lifted her head to find Aubree watching them, her expression blank.
