Chapter 238
Aubree's heart sank as their gazes locked. Roxanne, as expected, was also staying at the hotel.
Since an encounter was unavoidable, Roxanne maintained her composure, walking toward the elevator as if she hadn't seen Aubree. Aubree, however, watched Roxanne pointedly ignore her.
Gritting her teeth, Aubree approached Roxanne.
"Ms. Jarvis, Mr. Morrison, what a coincidence. Are you staying here too?" Roxanne's brows furrowed slightly, but she intended to ignore Aubree.
Larry, sensing Roxanne's intentions, subtly positioned himself between them, separating Aubree from Roxanne. He then nodded politely, though his tone was distant.
"A real coincidence, Ms. Pearson," he began, but Aubree interrupted with a smile. "Well, yes. Lucian is staying here, so I'm giving him a surprise. I just got his room key." Aubree displayed her keycard, feigning inadvertence.
She then retracted her hand, boasting, "I guess the receptionist saw the news of my wedding. They gave me the keycard before I even asked." She implied she would be staying in Lucian's room and that their engagement was public knowledge.
The three entered the elevator. Aubree, grinning, reached for the button panel, but Larry had already pressed the button for the top floor. Seeing this, Aubree halted her movement, gritting her teeth in barely concealed irritation.
What? she thought. They're on the same floor as Lucian? Is this really a coincidence?
Only the three of them were in the elevator. Roxanne pointedly ignored Aubree, and Larry remained silent. The atmosphere was heavy.
"Oh, right, what are you both doing in Bellridge?" Aubree, a strained smile plastered on her face, broke the silence, her fists clenched, trying to suppress her displeasure. She wanted to know who was pursuing whom. Though facing Larry, she watched Roxanne from the corner of her eye.
Roxanne remained impassive. It was unclear whether she hadn't heard or simply didn't care about Aubree's whereabouts.
"We're attending a conference," Larry replied curtly.
A faint scowl appeared on Aubree's face. Knowing they had business there, she wondered what had brought Lucian. Her morning suspicions intensified. Unable to contain her simmering anger, her smile became stiff.
"Is that so? Did you meet Lucian these past two days? I wonder if he's busy with something."
Larry started to speak, but seeing Roxanne frown, he swallowed his words.
"Mr. Farwell is a busy man. We wouldn't have had the chance to meet," Roxanne said coldly.
Before Aubree could respond, Roxanne exited the elevator. Aubree followed, her face gloomy.
They had breakfast together this morning, she thought. And now she says they didn't meet? Is she trying to fool me?
Following Roxanne down the corridor and watching her enter a room, Aubree checked the room number, then glanced at her keycard. The color drained from her face. Lucian's room number differed from Roxanne's by only one digit.
Aubree desperately tried to convince herself it was a coincidence that they were on the same floor. However, seeing their proximity, she couldn't accept it. This was no longer a coincidence.
