Chapter 240: Leaving the Country After Divorce
Lucian's expression darkened as he watched Roxanne leave. She had seemed fine that morning and didn't appear to want to go. His confusion grew with her sudden decision. He thought he'd heard her mention his fiancée was waiting for him in his room, a statement that left him pondering its meaning.
As soon as they were out of sight, Lucian quietly instructed Cayden, "Buy the earliest flight back to Horington." Cayden immediately complied.
Lucian entered the elevator, his face solemn. He intended to confront whoever dared claim to be his fiancée.
Opening his hotel room door, he found the room empty. Just as he was about to question Cayden, a knock sounded. Cayden answered the door. Unsure of how to proceed, he greeted, "Ms. Pearson."
Aubree craned her neck to peer inside. "Where is Lucian?" she asked. She claimed to have heard noises from his room. Search the FindNovel.net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality. She also believed he should be back at the hotel by now.
Finding Lucian absent, Aubree frowned and attempted to enter. Cayden swiftly intervened.
"Ms. Pearson, this is Mr. Farwell's room. I don't think it's appropriate for you to enter."
Aubree disregarded him. "Lucian and I are practically engaged. Why is it inappropriate? Let me in!"
Cayden, hesitant to use excessive force against a woman, was unable to stop her. She forced her way inside.
Aubree, assuming Lucian was absent, was surprised to find him seated on the couch. He'd just returned from a business meeting, sitting upright in his suit, legs crossed, and staring at her impassively. The atmosphere felt oppressive.
Meeting his gaze, she said cautiously, "Lucian, you're here"
Lucian remained expressionless. It suddenly occurred to him that Roxanne's "fiancée" was Aubree. Roxanne's hasty departure was likely due to Aubree's unexpected arrival.
"This is my room. Of course, I'm here. As for you, what are you doing here?" Lucian's tone turned icy.
Aubree looked away, guilt evident. "Oh, it's nothing. I have some work in Bellridge, and Mrs. Farwell said you were here on business. So I came to see you."
"Does Pearson Group have a project here in Bellridge? Why didn't I know about it?" Lucian's sharp question exposed her. Farwell Group often acted as an intermediary for Pearson Group projects, making Lucian aware of their dealings.
Aubree's expression changed; she clenched her fists. "We only started negotiations recently. It's not finalized. I came to explore the possibilities." Fearing further questioning, she quickly changed the subject. "Oh, right, why are you staying in this kind of hotel? Did your… partner book this for you?"
The moment she spoke, the room grew colder. Lucian briefly met her gaze before looking away.
