Chapter 301: Going to Her House
That morning, Estella waited at the kindergarten entrance before school, hoping to see Roxanne, Archie, and Benny. The brothers had told her the previous day that Roxanne was finally coming home and would be taking them to school. The night before, she had waited eagerly for Roxanne but only saw Madilyn. Initially disappointed, she was comforted by a message from Roxanne, knowing Roxanne still thought of her. This eased her disappointment, and she looked forward to seeing Roxanne the next day.
However, she saw neither Roxanne nor the brothers at school. This made her extremely sad.
"Essie! Come on in! It's almost time for school!" Pippa called out just before school started, having been unsure of what Estella was doing.
Estella pouted and shook her head.
"What's going on?" Pippa asked. Since Estella had gotten lost in the mountains, the teacher had been paying close attention to her.
Estella looked away without answering, hoping to see the car she'd been waiting for. She continued waiting until the school bell rang, but the people she wanted to meet still hadn't arrived.
Unable to persuade Estella to go inside, Pippa asked other teachers to cover her class and remained with Estella at the entrance. Estella's recent trauma had shaken her sense of security. Considering Roxanne's apparent attitude and the boys' absence, she began to cry.
Does this mean Ms. Jarvis doesn't want me anymore? she thought. Did she transfer Archie and Benny to another school? They almost went to another school last timeโฆ
Seeing Estella on the verge of a breakdown, Pippa knelt to comfort her. "What's the matter, Essie? Tell me what's upsetting you. I can help." Estella bit her lip, took out her notebook, and wrote: Archie and Benny.
Pippa now understood. Estella was waiting for the boys, though she didn't usually wait for them, even when arriving early. Confused by Estella's behavior, Pippa patiently explained, "Archie and Benny aren't coming today. Their mommy is sick, so they're staying home." She patted Estella's head. "Why don't we go inside? They'll be here tomorrow."
Learning of Roxanne's illness upset Estella. She shook her head, took a few steps back, and avoided Pippa's hand. Before Pippa could ask anything, Estella ran toward the Farwell family's car parked nearby. "Essie!" Pippa shouted, running after her.
After Estella's previous disappearance, Lucian had arranged for a driver to follow her, just in case she ran away again. The driver was astonished to see Estella running towards the car with her teacher in pursuit. Unexpectedly, Estella spoke, "Go to Ms. Jarvis' house!" she commanded, in a surprisingly authoritative yet cute voice.
Stunned, the driver smiled, nodded, and drove away, ignoring Pippa's chase.
