Chapter 304: The Culprit

When the doorbell rang again, Archie and Benny instinctively glanced at Estella. They quickly prevented Lysa from answering the door, opting to do so themselves.

Only one person would visit at this hour: the one searching for Essie.

Opening the door, Archie and Benny showed no surprise at the sight of the sharply dressed man. Behind him stood another man carrying a medical kit—clearly a doctor.

"Where's Essie?" Lucian's words were accompanied by a growing headache at the sight of Archie and Benny. Their deep-seated prejudice against him was baffling. He doubted he'd gain easy entry.

The boys exchanged a look, suspicion evident. "How did you know Mommy is sick?"

Lucian replied gravely, "Ms. Ward called, saying Essie had visited your mother."

Archie and Benny hesitated. While they didn't want Lucian inside, he had brought a doctor.

Seeing their reluctance soften, Lucian pressed on, using Roxanne's condition as leverage. "Your mother relies on you. She's likely not gone to the hospital. Let the doctor examine her; she might recover faster. Dr. Elswick is highly skilled."

The mention of Roxanne's illness calmed their anger. Since morning, they'd only followed Lysa's instructions, frequently changing the towel on Roxanne's forehead, but her fever persisted. They couldn't take her to the hospital; she was too weak to move.

After some deliberation, they prioritized Roxanne's health. Reluctantly, they went upstairs, leaving the door open. Lucian, relieved, led Sonny inside.
