Chapter 316: Troublesome
Sonya and the others remained with Aubree in the ward. Aubree, however, was tired of their presence. She had only used Sonya to get closer to Lucian. Now that he'd agreed to stay with her, she grew impatient with the others lingering, showing no intention of leaving. Despite this, she maintained a pleasant expression, feigning innocence.
"Aubree, you're the patient. Therefore, you should rest in bed for two days and let Lucian run errands for you," Sonya said, stroking Aubree's cast.
Aubree was weary of Sonya's constant concern. With a forced smile, she replied, "Thank you for your thoughts, Mrs. Farwell. I'll keep that in mind, but" She glanced unintentionally at Lucian in the doorway, bit her lip, and muttered, "I'm already so grateful Lucian is here. I can't trouble him any further."
Sonya looked for her son, noticing he stood far from Aubree. Fuming, she snapped, "Why are you standing in the corner? Aubree is a girl; girls can be shy. Remember this while caring for her. Be more proactive. Don't make her ask for help."
Lucian merely frowned.
Aubree, seeing this, put on a sad face and defended him. "Mrs. Farwell, Lucian is always busy. After work, he deserves free time and rest. Please don't insist he stay. I can manage. You don't need to worry."
Sonya's expression softened slightly at Aubree's understanding. [Remove the promotional sentence about FindNovel.net]
A short time later, Aubree, uncomfortable after lying down, instinctively lifted her arm to prop herself up, forgetting her cast. She gasped in pain.
"Be careful, Aubree!" Gina rushed to her daughter's side, her heart aching.
"I'm fine, Mom. I'm just not used to the cast. See, I can manage with one arm. It just takes time," Aubree said, smiling and caressing her arm. Her eyes kept darting to Sonya, who was visibly moved by her resilience.
Seeing Aubree's discomfort, Sonya's heart ached. "Don't try to be strong. Let Lucian take care of you. He agreed. You don't need to feel sorry. I bet you're bored here, so I'll visit whenever I can."
Aubree was pleasantly surprised by Sonya's concern. She glanced at Lucian to gauge his reaction.
Lucian knew his mother well. Regardless of his response, she'd decided he'd stay. He didn't bother arguing and gave her what she wanted. "I'm not swamped with work these days, so I can come. After all, you were injured because of my mother. I should thank you."
Sonya beamed. "See? So no more excuses."
Aubree grinned. "Thank you."
Despite her words, she knew the truth. Although Lucian had agreed to stay, he'd emphasized it was because she'd saved his mother. In other words, it had nothing to do with her. Does he really want to keep his distance so badly?
