Chapter 325: Careful
When Roxanne arrived at the hospital, she wanted to carry Benny inside. However, he was afraid she would get tired, so he insisted on walking by himself. She had no choice but to let him. After they got their number, she took them to the second floor.
"How are you feeling? Does your stomach still hurt?" Roxanne asked gently as they walked.
He didn't want to worry his mother, so despite the lingering pain, he silently shook his head.
But she wasn't fooled. Her eyes were filled with worry.
The elevator conveniently stopped at their floor.
"Is your arm still hurting?" she asked.
As the elevator doors opened, a familiar voice reached them.
Roxanne, Archie, and Benny instinctively turned.
Inside, they saw Aubree and Lucian standing close together. Aubree's arm was in a cast; she wore a large jacket over a thin hospital gown. Lucian's sleeves were rolled up, revealing a slender but strong arm. He was focused on Aubree. (Remove the promotional text here.)
Roxanne and the children were stunned. While they knew of the couple's marriage, this was the first time they'd seen such intimacy.
Lucian's jacket was draped over Aubree, his attention on her injured arm. His concern was evident.
The three felt a complex mix of emotions.
Roxanne felt a surge of self-deprecating humor. I knew they would eventually marry. I knew how obsessed he was with her six years ago. Yet, because he's been kind to me since I returned, I doubted their relationship. I wonder how the reporter who photographed me at the hospital with Lucian last time will report this. Even though I was mistaken for his fiancรฉe, from a certain perspective, those pictures made me look like Aubree's double. He treats Aubree far better than me! It's actually funny that I doubted them.
Benny and Archie clenched their fists, glaring at the couple with disdain. Bad Daddy! He doesn't want Mommy, yet he's so attentive to other women! And she bullied Mommy!
The couple stepped out of the elevator, seemingly oblivious to Roxanne and her children.
Aubree frowned, apologizing, "I'm feeling better. Maybe I was overreacting. I think we can skip the doctor"
As she spoke, her peripheral vision caught Roxanne. Finishing her sentence, she smiled and turned, her eyes meeting Roxanne's, Archie's, and Benny's. Lucian remained unaware of the family's presence. Hearing Aubree, he frowned. "Better safe than sorry."
After all, his mother was responsible for the injury, so thorough care was necessary.
The conversation implied Aubree didn't want to see a doctor, while Lucian insisted.
He didn't care for her reluctance.
Having spoken, he turned to the front.
His expression changed the moment his gaze landed on the family.
"What a coincidence, Ms. Jarvis. Are you unwell? Or is one of your children sick?" Aubree greeted casually, subtly raising her uninjured arm and adjusting her jacket.
