Chapter 326: Being Nice
Roxanne, shielding her children behind her, offered Aubree a distant smile. "There's no need to worry, Ms. Pearson. It's just a minor illness." She then glanced at Lucian. "It seems you're busy with Mr. Farwell. I won't bother you both further."
Without waiting for a reply, she gathered her children and attempted to leave.
After taking two steps, Lucian asked, "Are Benny and Archie unwell?"
His gaze fell on Benny's pale face and the way the boy clutched his abdomen. Benny's eyes were dark.
The pale boy turned, his tone angry. "It's just a stomachache! You should take that lady to the doctor, Mr. Farwell. Don't worry about us!"
His anger was evident. His voice echoed in the silent corridor.
Lucian frowned, sensing the child's hostility. He was unsure what had caused their unhappiness. The children's increased antagonism surprised him, especially given their time apart.
Roxanne, noticing Benny's rising voice, quickly moved him behind her and apologized to passersby. Turning back to Lucian and Aubree, she said, "I'm sorry, Benny isn't feeling well; he's in a bad mood. I hope you'll forgive him."
The memory of Archie and Benny's unexplained expulsion from kindergarten still troubled her. This, coupled with Lucian's apparent closeness to Aubree, fueled her desire to avoid any further trouble. She opted for a respectful approach to the couple.
Her submissiveness darkened Lucian's expression. He silently frowned. I can't believe she's asking me to forgive the children. Does she think I'll harm them? Hasn't our time together shown her what kind of person I am?
Roxanne's perception of him further darkened his mood, chilling the atmosphere. Aubree, closest to him, felt the pressure immediately, clenching her fist. Maintaining a kind facade, she looked at Benny and asked solicitously, "He looks awful. Is he seriously ill?"
Turning to Roxanne, she added casually, "If you need help, I can recommend an excellent pediatrician. And if Lucian's willing to help, that would be wonderful! He knows some excellent doctors."
Finally, she glanced at her castโa subtle reminder that Lucian had found her doctor.
Roxanne understood. She offered a cold smile. "No need. We have ample medical resources. Benny's condition isn't serious, but thank you for your consideration, Ms. Pearson."
Despite Roxanne's politeness, Aubree frowned, looking aggrieved. "I'm just being nice. Is that response necessary, Ms. Jarvis?"
Roxanne's eyelid twitched, but she ignored Aubree's remark, her lips twitching slightly.
