Chapter 375: Letting Roxanne Off Easily
Not long after Sonya left, someone knocked on the door. Frieda entered, wearing a bitter expression. "What's wrong? Did someone bully you?" Aubree asked, confused by Frieda's demeanor. Frieda sat beside the bed and began peeling an apple distractedly.
"My brother and grandfather!" she complained. Aubree, noticing Frieda's lack of focus, took the apple and knife from her.
Patiently, she asked, "What did they do to you?"
"They found out I was the one who told Rex not to supply medicinal herbs to Roxanne!" Frieda said, shooting Aubree an aggrieved look. Actually, Aubree had given her the idea. Had Aubree not mentioned Sonya's blacklisting of Roxanne, Frieda wouldn't have acted. Disliking Roxanne, Aubree had suggested that Frieda seize the opportunity to stop the herb supply, reasoning it would both vent their frustration and improve relations between Queen Group and Farwell Group. Frieda hadn't thought it through.
Assuming Aubree was helping her, she followed instructions. After being scolded, she immediately came to Aubree to complain. A flash of disgust appeared in Aubree's eyes.
I can't believe Frieda couldn't accomplish something this simple! Aubree thought, but pretended to be a caring friend.
"Then what happened? Did they reprimand you?" she urged softly. Frieda nodded angrily.
"They said I was trying to destroy the Queen family's reputation and prohibited me from interfering in Queen Group's business from now on!" Frieda took Aubree's arm pleadingly.
"Aubree, you know I did nothing wrong. Please help me explain to Jonathan and Grandfather!" she said. "I did nothing wrong, but I've lost my voice in Queen Group. It's not worthwhile at all."
Impatience flickered across Aubree's face as she discreetly brushed Frieda's hand away.
"Calm down. It's normal for Old Mr. Queen and Jonathan to react that way; Roxanne cured Old Mr. Queen's illness. Jonathan has always sided with Roxanne, so it's natural for him to defend her."
Frieda's expression changed slightly. "Are we going to let Roxanne off easily this time?"
Aubree grimaced. "Did Queen Group resume supplying medicinal herbs to Roxanne's research institute?" Frieda nodded gravely.
It was obvious Jonathan and her grandfather wanted to continue supplying Roxanne. Fury consumed Frieda at her failure to punish Roxanne and her subsequent reprimand. Aubree's rage also flared; Sonya's plan had backfired. She had wanted Queen Group to stay out of it and hinted at Frieda taking action against Roxanne, but Frieda proved unreliable.
Aubree fell silent, but Frieda, oblivious, continued to complain. "I wonder why Grandfather and Jonathan side with Roxanne when all she did was cure Grandfather's illness. They refused to believe me, even though I'm family! I did this for Queen Group's sake!"
Annoyed, Aubree replied half-heartedly, "They'll soon know you're right." Pleased by this acknowledgment, Frieda lamented, "Ugh, we let her off easily this time!" Aubree's eyes were glacial.
