Meanwhile, Estella was sprawled on the coffee table, playing with Legos when Lucian returned to the manor. Sheโd spent considerable time with Archie and Benny, adopting their habits and persuading Lucian to buy her numerous Lego sets. Anticipating her solitary play, heโd purchased a smaller set, perfectly sized for the coffee table. Seeing him enter, Estella glanced at the door and rose to greet him, but merely stood silently at his side, staring. Her presence reminded Lucian of Roxanne.
Despite her fear on the plane, all she could think about were Archie and Benny. Little did she know Estella was also her daughter.
Lucian stroked Estella's head, a bittersweet gesture.
"Ms. Jarvis," Estella suddenly called out.
Stunned, Lucian frowned, slowly withdrawing his hand. Estella, lips pursed in displeasure, reached for his hand, her voice sharp. "The smell on your handโฆ it belongs to Ms. Jarvis."
Lucian looked at his hand. Roxanne had held it throughout their plane journey.
Wrinkling her nose, Estella approached slowly, stating earnestly, "Daddy, you smell like Ms. Jarvis, too." She pouted. Since Daddy carried Ms. Jarvis' scent, they must have met. She hadn't seen her in a long time.
Estella glared at her father before storming upstairs.
Puzzled by her sudden anger, Lucian hurried after her.
Fuming, Estella hugged her knees, sitting on the bedroom carpet. Hearing footsteps, she quickly looked up, then just as swiftly, looked away. "Are you angry?" Lucian asked, his voice deep.
Estella glanced at him, then resentfully turned her head. Ms. Jarvis had been avoiding her because of Daddy. But even after meeting Daddy, she still refused to see her.
As Estella's father, Lucian understood her feelings. "You don't want Ms. Jarvis to leave, do you? I'm trying to persuade her to stay. That's why I met her. She wasn't feeling well after returning, so I sent her back home."
Estella eyed him dubiously, but concern filled her face at the mention of Roxanne's illness. "What happened to Ms. Jarvis?"
Worried about traumatizing her with details of the plane incident, Lucian said, "Nothing serious. She's just feeling unwell."
Estella looked at him disbelievingly, her lips pursed. "I want to visit Ms. Jarvis!"
Lucian raised an eyebrow. Considering Roxanne's reluctance, he doubted she wanted to see him again. However, she was fond of Estella. If he took Estellaโฆ Lucianโs lips curved into a knowing smile. "Fine. I'll take you tomorrow."
Estella was speechless, surprised by his ready agreement.
"Rest now. You have school tomorrow. We'll go in the morning." Lucian tousled her hair.
Estella, looking forward to seeing Roxanne, nodded obediently.
