Chapter 564
Roxanne settled into her seat, avoiding the crowd's gaze. She kept her eyes lowered and thanked Lucian, who remained silent, staring at her before returning to his seat. The diving instructor, who had accompanied Roxanne, skillfully climbed the steps and returned her camera. As he began to help her remove her gear, he glanced nervously at Lucian, fearing his anger. Lucian, however, remained unresponsive. Only then did the instructor continue.
โMommy, why were you down there so long?โ Benny asked worriedly, looking at Roxanneโs pale face. The boys' concern was evident.
Smiling, Roxanne reassured them, โThe underwater scenery was beautiful; I wanted to enjoy it longer. Iโm sorry for worrying you.โ
The boys looked doubtful. โBut you look sick.โ They suspected sheโd encountered trouble underwater but hadn't mentioned it for fear of upsetting them.
Roxanne sensed their worry and shot the instructor a helpless glance. He understood, but looked at Lucian before speaking. โMrs. Farwell is a very talented diver. Nothing happened underwater. She simply wished to stay a while longer, and I only agreed after confirming her condition. Sheโs likely pale from exertion.โ
The instructor, assuming Roxanne was Lucianโs rumored fiancรฉe, had addressed her formally. The children breathed a sigh of relief, then noticed his form of address and turned to look at the adults.
Roxanneโs frown deepened; she was about to explain when Lucian interrupted. โUnderstood. As long as sheโs fine, itโs not a problem. You did well.โ
The instructor smiled, oblivious. Roxanne frowned even more deeply, turning to Lucian. Had he said this last night, she would have remained silent. But after last night's incident, she felt insulted by his tacit acceptance of the instructor's address.
Lucian met her gaze calmly. โWeโre taking the children out today. Let's not overthink such trivial matters. You wouldn't want to upset them, would you?โ
Roxanne was stunned. โMrs. Farwellโ was a trivial matter to him? Yet, she had to concede his point. Exposing the instructor's mistake would only make the trip awkward and uncomfortable for him. After considering this, Roxanne retracted her gaze, feigning ignorance.
Seeing her reluctant compliance, Lucian raised an eyebrow and smiled with satisfaction. The children, observing them, sensed Lucian's earlier explanation was merely to appease Roxanne. They thought, Daddy's so powerful. How would the staff dare spoil our trip?
