Chapter 586
Even though they were of similar status, Lucian's condescending tone displeased Jack. However, respecting the location, Jack maintained his composure. He turned to Roxanne, his eyebrows slightly furrowed, seeking her opinion.
Roxanne also found Lucian's behavior inappropriate. She knew, however, that further confrontation would only escalate the situation. Sensing Jack's gaze, she said apologetically, "Thank you for seeing me home, Mr. Damaris. I'm afraid it's best not to invite you in today. I'll properly thank you later."
Lucian's eyebrows furrowed at her words. He immediately reached out and took her arm.
Jack, respecting her decision, simply nodded with a smile. "It was nothing. Given your injury, perhaps we should discuss the collaboration over the phone."
Roxanne gratefully agreed. Before leaving, Jack's gaze briefly met Lucian's. "If you need anything, Ms. Jarvis, just call."
She smiled. "All right. Drive safely, Mr. Damaris."
Lucian's frown deepened, his grip on Roxanne's arm tightening. Roxanne winced in pain. A strange feeling arose in her heart as she witnessed his expression. Jack's car slowly disappeared.
Roxanne turned, taking two hesitant steps away. She looked at Lucian, alert. "What is it, Mr. Farwell?"
His frown intensified at her avoidance. "I brought your medicine, Ms. Jarvis. I didn't expect such a swift recovery. You haven't been injured long, yet you're moving freely." His gaze shifted to where Jack had left, a mocking tone entering his voice. "Or is Mr. Damaris so special that you want to see him despite your injury?"
Sensing the hostility, Roxanne felt increasingly uncomfortable. "Mr. Damaris and I are business partners. We met to discuss our collaboration. Please don't jump to conclusions, Mr. Farwell!"
Lucian's lips twitched. "I hope so."
His mockery stung. Her expression darkened. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Farwell. However, I have plenty of medicine. If there's nothing else, please leave."
Roxanne turned and stumbled back into the mansion, preventing further conversation.
He caught her arm after two steps. His cold voice brushed her ear. "I'll take you inside."
"No need. It's only a few steps. I can manage," she refused instantly. His grip tightened, a clear sign of his displeasure.
"Why can I not, when Jack can?" He looked deeply into her eyes. "Didn't you say you two are only business partners?"
Her body froze as she stared back, incredulous. She'd thought it was his usual mockery, but his expression seemed genuine. He truly believed something existed between her and Jack. Her expression hardened. Finally, she complied. "Thank you for your help then, Mr. Farwell."
