Chapter 587
Only then did Lucian's expression brighten as he helped Roxanne into the mansion. Lysa and the children hadn't yet returned, leaving them alone. Roxanne felt awkward. Just as she was about to ask him to leave, he said, "Let me take a look at your injury." He slowly crouched before her.
Roxanne, understanding his intentions, frowned. "No need. My injury is fine. I know that." She tried to pull her leg back, but her injury restricted her movement, and there was nowhere else to go on the couch. Lucian grasped her ankle as she retracted her leg.
"Don't move," he said. "Your injury is on your foot; if you're not careful, the wound will reopen. You ignored the doctor's advice and walked around freely." His eyebrows furrowed as he looked at her. "Even if you don't like me, there's no need to push yourself like this."
Guilt washed over Roxanne as their eyes met. When she recovered her senses, her shoes were off, and her gauze-covered foot was exposed. He carefully lifted her leg and examined it, frowning. The clean white gauze was stained with a small amount of blood.
His expression darkened. This woman, he thought. Not only did she meet another man with her injury, but she also caused it to tear! A chill filled the air.
Roxanne couldn't see her foot, but she noticed Lucian's darkening expression. Her heart clenched. "What's wrong?" she asked.
He glared at her. "Didn't you say you're a doctor and aware of your injury? Why didn't you realize your wound was torn?"
Shock filled her eyes. Was the bandage too tight? He probably thinks I'm being stubborn again, she thought.
Lucian's eyebrows furrowed at her expression. "You didn't know?"
Roxanne looked away. "I... didn't feel anything."
Silence hung in the air. Then, she felt his hand moving again. Her leg instinctively retracted, but he held her ankle firmly. "Don't move. I'm applying medicine." He looked at her authoritatively, a trace of anger in his expression. She pursed her lips and stopped struggling.
The wound had been open for some time; the dried blood had stuck the gauze to it. Despite Lucian's care, Roxanne groaned in pain.
He glanced at her, his eyebrows furrowed. "Now you know it's painful? You're a doctor. Don't you realize you need rest for your injury to heal?"
Her eyes remained downcast; her lips were pursed. He suppressed his anger, his movements becoming gentler as he disinfected and treated the wound. Besides the initial discomfort of disinfection, she felt no further pain. She realized he had intentionally been gentle, and a wave of mixed emotions washed over her.
