Chapter 589
Sonya escorted Aubree to the Pearson residence, speaking briefly with Gina before departing. Gina and Aubree watched her leave before returning to the mansion.
โIs your arm still hurting?โ Gina asked, her gaze fixed on her daughterโs injured arm, a worried frown etching her features. She rarely visited, hoping to foster a better relationship between Aubree and Sonya, but her concern remained.
Aubree shook her head, annoyance evident on her face. โIโm fine. Iโm going upstairs.โ
Without another word, she climbed the stairs. Gina watched her go, her eyebrows furrowed. Moments later, a door slammed upstairs, confusing her; she couldnโt understand her daughterโs sudden foul mood after being discharged from the hospital.
Aubree, alone in her room, considered her options before calling Lucian. While she could only wait for his visits at the hospital, now that she was home, she could see him. Ultimately, she wanted to prevent further encounters between Lucian and Roxanne. She frowned at her phone, struggling to control her frustration; she didn't want Lucian to hear her upset tone.
However, her call went unanswered.
Meanwhile, Lucian had just finished tending to Roxanne's wound. His phone rang. He checked the caller ID, his eyebrows furrowing. Seeing the name, he subconsciously glanced at Roxanne, their eyes meeting.
Roxanne's eyebrows tightened as she saw "Aubree" displayed on his phone; the name served as a stark reminder of her proximity to Lucian. Realizing this, she subtly pinched her palm, affecting composure, and drew back, creating distance. Her gaze dropped, as if attempting to become invisible.
The ringing ceased. She saw Lucian end the call and pocket his phone. He looked at her, leaving her momentarily speechless.
"I've treated your wound," he said, his eyebrow raised casually. "Don't you think I deserve some thanks, Ms. Jarvis?"
Hesitation flickered in her eyes. She wanted to ask why he hadn't answered Aubree's call, but quickly realized it wasn't her place. Calmness returned. Her voice distant, she replied, "Thank you, but it's late. If there's nothing else, you should go home, Mr. Farwell. My leg injury prevents me from seeing you out."
She desperately wanted to sever ties with Lucian before Sonya and Aubree concocted another scheme.
A frown creased his face. He'd thought she'd finally appreciated him while he treated her wound, but she'd so swiftly changed her demeanor; gratitude one moment, dismissal the next.
Seeing his anger, she turned to him with furrowed brows.
