Chapter 591
It was difficult to determine how long Roxanne and Lucian remained in the living room before her phone rang. It was Lysa. Roxanne answered.
โHave you returned, Ms. Jarvis? If not, we can pick you up,โ Lysa said immediately. Roxanne replied simply, โIโm already back home. Bring the children straight here.โ Lysa sounded troubled. โAlso, Mr. Farwellโs assistant says he wants to come home with usโฆโ
When Lysa went to collect Archie and Benny, Estella was still there. The boys refused to leave until she did, so Lysa had to wait. Finally, when Cayden arrived, he also wanted to come home with Lysa. Unable to decide, she called Roxanne. Roxanne subconsciously glanced at Lucian upon hearing this.
He appeared oblivious, his eyes fixed and expressionless on his phone. Hesitating, she replied, โI understand. Let him come back with you all.โ A sigh of relief escaped Lysa upon receiving permission; she agreed and hung up. Anticipating facing her children, Roxanne took a deep breath to calm herself.
Soon, the gate opened, and the children's laughter filled the air. Their joyful reunion was evident. Roxanne instinctively reached for them, but Lucian, observing her, put down his phone and stopped her.
โDonโt move. Your wound is freshly bandaged.โ
She watched him go to the entrance. โDaddy!โ Estella cried, excitedly hugging his leg. He patted her head, took the childrenโs bags from Lysa, and helped them change their shoes before taking them inside to wash their hands.
The boys were confused. They remembered their mother disliking their father's visits, yet here he was, and she didn't seem to want him to leave.
โMs. Jarvis!โ Estella ran to Roxanne after washing her hands.
Roxanne, her heart a whirlwind of emotions, forced a smile and hugged her daughter. Estella noticed Roxanneโs injured leg. โIs your leg better?โ she asked anxiously.
Roxanne reassured her, โYes, it is. Thank you for caring, Essie.โ
This didn't ease Estella's worry. She carefully touched the bandage on Roxanneโs leg. Roxanne smiled and let her.
The boys sat quietly, occasionally glancing cautiously at their father. Then, they spotted the bloodstained gauze on the floorโapparently overlooked by Lucian and Roxanne. Comparing it to the fresh bandage on their motherโs leg, they frowned. โDid your wound open, Mommy?โ they asked.
Roxanneโs heart clenched. She looked at Estella, whose face crumpled into a worried pout.
