Chapter 599

Cayden was startled awake by his boss's request. "Are my ears deceiving me?" he thought. "Did Mr. Farwell just ask me to find florists? Is he really going to do that?"

Cayden, still in shock, hadn't replied. Lucian, hearing only silence, frowned. "Can you hear me?"

Snapping to attention, Cayden answered, "Yes, Mr. Farwell. Please give me a moment. I'll find some immediately!"

Lucian hummed in acknowledgement before ending the call. His initial plan had been to have Cayden buy the flowers, but he'd decided to handle it personally, considering the significance of the gesture.

Minutes later, Lucian received a text from his assistant listing websites and contact details for two florists. He reviewed both before making a selection.

The next morning, after sending Estella to kindergarten earlier than usual, Lucian went to the florist.

"Looking for flowers?" the shop assistant asked, noticing him.

Lucian nodded, his brow furrowing as he surveyed the displays. It was his first time buying flowers for someone, and he was unsure what to choose.

The assistant, sensing his confusion, approached. "Different flowers have different meanings. Are you buying these for your girlfriend?"

Girlfriend?

Lucian's expression darkened. After a pause, he nodded curtly.

The assistant couldn't help but feel a pang of envy. I wonder who the lucky woman is, she mused, to have such a handsome and thoughtful boyfriend.

Putting aside her envy, she enthusiastically suggested, "For a girlfriend, I'd recommend red roses! We have several ready-made bouquets. Please come in and have a look."

He nodded and followed her inside, greeted by the intoxicating aroma of fresh blooms. The assistant presented a popular bouquet. "This is a favorite among couples. You might like it."

He lacked any specific preference, and given her enthusiastic recommendation, he agreed. "I'll take this one."

"Would you like a card? A message?" she asked.

Lucian remembered Jonathan's advice from the previous day: include a message. But what to write?

He pondered for a moment before requesting, "May I have a card? I'll write the message myself."

The assistant readily provided a card and pen. Lucian wrote, his brow furrowed in concentration. After folding the card, he returned it to the assistant.

"Anything else I can help you with?" she inquired.

He shook his head, provided the delivery address, and departed. He'd followed Jonathan's suggestion, pouring his feelings onto the card. He wondered how Roxanne would react.

Unable to resist, the assistant peeked at the card after he left. She was taken aback by his angular script. It was the most enigmatic note she'd ever seen accompanying a bouquet of roses.
