Chapter 602
Back in the office, Roxanne's response ignited Lucian's anger, but he quickly suppressed it, remembering his objective. His tone, however, grew colder. "Of course I know what it means. I also assume you, Ms. Jarvis, understand my intentions."
Roxanne, already tired, sensed Lucian's unusual demeanor. Her brows furrowed slightly. "No, I don't. Whatever it is, Mr. Farwell, just say it directly."
Frustration and rage burning within him, Lucian declared, "I hope you'll return to my side!"
Roxanne felt a sledgehammer blow. Six years ago, such words would have overjoyed her. Now, only mockery remained. What did he mean? Engaged to Aubree, yet sending her roses? What did she and Aubree truly mean to him?
After a long silence, Lucian's anger subsided. Cognizant of his words, he furrowed his brows in remorse. Holding back his emotions, he continued as if nothing had happened. "Furthermore, Essie needs a mother. Since she adores you, and I remember you're very fond of herโ"
Roxanne unexpectedly interrupted. "Who do you take me for, Mr. Farwell? Do you think Essie liking me qualifies me to be her mother? By that logic, Essie's birth mother is more suitable. You should send Essie back to her!"
Lucian frowned, attempting to clarify, but the call ended. He stared at his phone's blank screen, his eyes brimming with anger and regret.
I'm truly at my wit's end. After going this far and clearly stating my intentions, she still misunderstands me! What did I do wrong?
After the call, Roxanne turned to Lysa. "Lysa, please return the flowers to the florist and have them personally delivered to Lucian."
Lysa hesitated. "Ms. Jarvis, don't you think that's inappropriate?" Even to her, Lucian's sincerity was evident. She'd witnessed his attentiveness to Roxanne, always at her side when she was ill. There was no doubt about his feelings. By doing this... Even if she doesn't accept him, is it really necessary to crush his heart?
Roxanne narrowed her eyes. "Why is it inappropriate? I should never have received them in the first place." She explained, "Don't misunderstand. Our relationship isn't what you think. I'll tell you all about it someday."
Lysa's curiosity deepened. It seems there's more than meets the eye. It's not my place to judge.
The conflicted Lysa agreed. "I'll return as soon as possible. You should stay put; your wound might rip open."
Roxanne smiled, her lips pursed.
