Chapter 604
When it was time to leave work that evening, Cayden breathed a sigh of relief. He'd survived another day. As expected, Lucian remained grumpy throughout the afternoon after receiving the flowers. Having worked for Lucian for a long time, Cayden knew how to avoid upsetting him, yet Lucian still scowled. Senior management fared worse; each received a dressing-down, emerging from Lucian's office pale-faced.
To Cayden's surprise, Lucian didn't require his assistance that evening. Instead, he instructed, "Please help me pick up Essie." Only after seeing Lucian enter the elevator did Cayden grunt in acknowledgment. Why wasn't Lucian picking up Essie himself, especially since he was leaving early?
Peeking into Lucian's office, Cayden saw the untouched bouquet. The reason Mr. Farwell isn't picking up Ms. Estella likely involves those flowers, he mused.
Lucian drove directly to Queen Group. Since Jonathan had suggested the flower idea, Lucian intended to discuss the problem with him. Jonathan, preparing to leave for the day, was surprised to see a familiar Jeep Cherokee parked outside. If I'm not mistaken, that's one of Lucian's cars. What's he doing here?
Curious, Jonathan approached and knocked on the window. Lucian's gloomy expression was revealed as the window lowered. Jonathan's heart sank. "Lucian, whatโ"
Lucian, brow furrowed, said, "Get in. Let's go get a drink."
Jonathan was bewildered. In two days, Lucian's invited me out twiceโunheard of. Unless he's having problems with Roxanne again. This realization prompted Jonathan to silently join Lucian in the car. The sudden acceleration nearly caused him to sprain his back.
"What happened today? Didn't I give you an idea? How did you end up quarreling again?" Jonathan asked, fastening his seatbelt.
Lucian's frosty reply infuriated him. "I followed your instructions, and it was useless."
Jonathan frowned. "It shouldn't be that way... Frieda always smiles when she receives roses. Even if Roxanne doesn't accept him, she should be touched by his gesture. Unless... she's different."
"When you sent the flowers, did you include a confession?" Jonathan asked, racking his brain.
Lucian's expression remained grim. "Yes. I even wrote the card myself."
Jonathan lamented, "Then there's even more reason for it to work!" He knew cards accompanying generic bouquets were usually written by the florist. Lucian's personal touch should have moved Roxanne, even if she had a heart of stone. Is there something wrong with what Lucian wrote?
