Chapter 608

Standing by her bedroom door, Lucian wore a solemn expression. Regardless of his current relationship with Roxanne, he had promised Estella, and winning Roxanne back was now paramount.

The next morning, Lucian sent Estella to kindergarten early and unexpectedly ran into Lysa. "Essie!" the boys greeted her from afar.

Estella, beaming, hummed in response, shook off her father's hand, and ran to join them. Lucian simply said, "Slow down," letting her go.

Hearing Lucian's voice, the brothers looked up, giving him a hesitant glance. Lucian frowned, his eyes reflecting his complex emotions. He knew the boys resented him, just as their mother did. He wondered if they'd noticed Roxanne's anger the previous day. Given the difficulty in changing their attitude, he didn't want to risk a setback.

Just then, the brothers' voices piped up, "Good morning, Mr. Farwell." Archie and Benny bowed politely, then quickly looked away. Lucian was puzzled. Previously, they'd ignored him completely. Their greeting, however, suggested an improvement in their attitude, yet their subsequent behavior made him question that assumption. Considering their mother's feelings, they'd likely restrained their desire to see their father and instead interacted with Estella.

Lysa wore a strange expression. Seeing Lucian reminded her of the roses from the previous day, leaving her momentarily speechless. The boys' greeting gave her time to compose herself. "Mr. Farwell..." she finally said, her tone still awkward.

Lucian, knitting his brows, gave her a questioning look. He sensed she had more to say. Meeting his gaze, her heart skipped a beat, but she managed a smile. "What a coincidence seeing you here," she said.

Lucian saw her scrutinizing him. Her thoughtsโ€”the roses and her speculation about his relationship with Roxanneโ€”were evident in her uneasy demeanor. Raising an eyebrow, he asked, "Is there something you want to say?"

Wiping her sweaty hands on her pants, Lysa forced a smile. "No, not at all." Despite their many previous encounters, she felt an intimidating pressure from his gaze. Guilt-ridden, she feared mentioning the roses. She reasoned he probably wouldn't want an outsider involved.

Though she tried to maintain her composure, Lucian understood her internal struggle. He simply said, "Please take good care of Ms. Jarvis." Lysa nodded.
