Chapter 610
Startled, Cayden stammered a hasty excuse. "I was wondering if we should do something about the flowers; they'll wilt quickly if we leave them."
Glancing at the flowers with a frustrated expression, Lucian replied after a moment, "Do as you wish."
Cayden breathed a sigh of relief. "In that case, I'll put them in a vase later."
Lucian nodded curtly, gesturing for Cayden to continue with the reports.
Cayden regained his composure and focused. Once finished, he gave Lucian a hesitant look. "Shall I get a vase now, Mr. Farwell?"
Lucian, engrossed in his work, didn't respond. Having worked for Lucian for many years, Cayden understood silence as implicit approval. He filled a vase with water, returned silently, and arranged the roses. While doing so, he noticed the accompanying card.
A wave of sadness washed over him. Lucian's seriousness regarding Roxanne was evident; he'd never seen him act like this before. The first flowers Lucian had ever sent had been rejected, leaving Cayden wondering about Roxanne's thoughts.
Before he could process this, another bouquet arrived, requiring Lucian's personal attention. Coincidentally, Cayden had just returned from lunch, as he had the previous day. The lobby erupted in stares and the receptionist offered a helpless look; they clearly expected him to handle the situation.
Remembering Lucian's scowl from the previous day, a chill ran down Cayden's spine. Thinking of the person who had returned the flowers, frustration overwhelmed him. Whether accepted or not, Lucian would be angry.
"Mr. Lawson..." the receptionist pleaded.
Resigned, Cayden approached. "Give them to me."
He entered the elevator, a sense of dread settling upon him. The moment he left, the lobby buzzed with whispers.
"Are those for Mr. Farwell? Who sent them? I can't believe Mr. Lawson actually accepted them!"
"Need we ask? Only Ms. Pearson would receive such treatment. She's Mr. Farwell's fiancรฉe, after all!"
"Considering how aloof Ms. Pearson is, I didn't expect her to be the passionate type to send Mr. Farwell flowers daily."
Unaware the flowers had been returned, everyone gossiped about the sender.
Meanwhile, Cayden stood in Lucian's office, feeling tense. "Mr. Farwell, these are..."
The moment the words left his mouth, the tension intensified. Lucian clearly anticipated his explanation, causing Cayden to hesitate. Relief washed over him as Lucian finally spoke. "Just handle it as you see fit."
Cayden grunted in acknowledgment and left to find another vase.
Lucian stared at the new bouquet, his expression darkening. He'd known Roxanne might reject the flowers, but not this quickly.
