Chapter 611

Lysa returned after returning the flowers. Hesitantly, she considered speaking to Roxanne, who was working on her laptop on the couch.

Roxanne turned at a sound near the doorway. Seeing Lysa, she asked, โ€œHave you returned the flowers?โ€

The housekeeper nodded slightly. โ€œIโ€™ve asked the florist to send them back,โ€ she replied.

Satisfied, Roxanne resumed her work.

Although Colby managed the research institute, he still needed Roxanne to discuss a potential collaboration with the Damaris family. Roxanne took the matter seriously, devoting most of her recovery time to the project. Thankfully, Jack understood her injury and allowed her to work at her own pace. His consideration filled Roxanne with guilt. She was determined to master the project details to quickly resume her duties.

As she focused intently on the project, Lysaโ€™s voice rang out. โ€œMs. Jarvis, don't you think you're being a littleโ€ฆ cold-hearted?โ€

Returning the flowers was a humiliating gesture, especially considering Lucian's stature. Lucian's final message that morning had moved Lysa; she was increasingly convinced of his sincerity toward Roxanne.

Roxanne frowned at the housekeeper's question. Looking away from her laptop, she replied coolly, โ€œNothing will ever happen between us; returning his flowers was the only logical thing to do.โ€

Noticing Lysaโ€™s objection, Roxanne smiled. โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Iโ€™ll never accept anything from him. Itโ€™s final.โ€

Roxanne turned back to her laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard. This clearly signaled an end to the discussion of Lucian's affections.

Watching Roxanneโ€™s intense concentration, Lysa swallowed her advice, sighed, and resignedly entered the kitchen.

After Lysa left, Roxanne's typing slowed. The housekeeper's words had distracted her. Since her return to the country, Roxanne had sensed a change in Lucianโ€™s attitude compared to six years prior. She dared not speculate on the reason for this transformation.

However, Lucian's actions over the past two days compelled her to examine his motives more closely. After all, despite his bold declarations of love for Aubree six years ago, Roxanne had never seen him give her a single flower. Sending flowers was uncharacteristic of Lucian; yet, he had sent them to her instead of Aubree. Furthermore, after returning the first bouquet, she received another the following day.

Even more surprising was her reaction to the second bouquet. There was no card or identifying information, yet she instantly thought of Lucian. Instinctively, she had Lysa return the flowers.

Roxanne hoped Lucian would understand and leave her alone. Her focus was on the Damaris collaboration and advancing traditional medicine. Lucian's actions, in her eyes, were nothing but trouble.
