Chapter 636
โIf youโre fine with it, can we join you?โ Jessica smiled at the others, her gaze lingering briefly on Roxanne.
The others exchanged glances. Having concluded their discussion, and seeing Jessicaโs proximity to Jack, they readily agreed. They nodded to Jack, who, having no choice, said, โJoin us, then.โ He signaled the server to add a seat.
Jessica moved directly to the space Jack indicated. Then, seemingly noticing Roxanne for the first time, she stared, a shocked expression crossing her face before she turned to Jack, confused. โIs this lady with you?โ
Jack nodded. โThis is Dr. Jarvis.โ
Roxanne, sensing Jessicaโs possible doubt, smiled and said, โYou can just call me Dr. Jarvis.โ
Jessica gave Roxanne a thorough appraisal. Noting Roxanneโs striking appearance and her connection to Jack's professional world, a flicker of animosity briefly crossed her eyes. Nevertheless, she offered a faint smile. โYouโre impressive, Dr. Jarvis. Youโre young, but already working with the leading figures in medicine.โ
Roxanne returned a humble smile. โIโm just lucky.โ
When the server arrived with a chair, Jessica remained seated between Roxanne and Jack, her intentions unclear. Roxanne, without dwelling on it, stood and shifted her chair to accommodate Jessica.
Jessica settled beside Jack without hesitation, her gaze drifting back to him with undisguised admiration. Jack, however, remained engrossed in conversation with the other doctors, oblivious to the subtle interplay beside him.
โJack has been exceptional since he was young, but due to the Damaris familyโs rules, he rarely interacts with girls. The only exception is me, who grew up with him,โ Jessica remarked casually, though only Roxanne seemed to hear.
Roxanne, though slightly perplexed, replied politely, โYou must be very close to Mr. Damaris, then.โ
Jessicaโs gaze turned sharp. Roxanne maintained her sincere smile. Jessica frowned, her tone dubious. โHow did you get to know Jack?โ
Roxanne explained, โOld Mr. Queen recommended me to the Damaris familyโs medical consultation some time ago, so I had the opportunity to assist Mr. Damarisโs children.โ
Jessicaโs spirits sank. The Hightower familyโs involvement in medicine hadn't afforded her a similar opportunity. Understanding the exclusivity of the Damaris familyโs consultations, she imagined the closeness Roxanneโs involvement implied.
โIs that so? You must be far more skilled than I thought to have participated in that consultation with Jack,โ Jessica conceded grudgingly. โHe must think very highly of you.โ
Roxanne sensed the undercurrent of tension, unsure how to respond without implying a romantic connection with Jack.
