Chapter 660
After offering her advice, Madilyn asked, "So? Was I right? Is Lucian really pursuing you?"
Roxanne, startled by her best friend's emphatic tone, froze for a moment before regaining her composure. She smiled nonchalantly. "I have no idea what he's thinking. Perhaps he's trying to get closer because Estella likes me."
Madilyn, however, felt her guess was close to the truth. She gave Roxanne a serious look. "I'm serious. You should consider giving the relationship a chance. Think of it as making amends for six years of regrets."
Roxanne pondered this. Finally, she smiled faintly. "All right. Thank you."
Madilyn rose and hugged her. "You know you can talk to me anytime something's bothering you, right? Don't keep it to yourself."
Roxanne smiled in agreement.
Madilyn knew Roxanne needed time to process this. She remained silent, waiting for Roxanne to finish breakfast.
Afterward, they spent the entire day playing with Archie and Benny. Madilyn didn't leave until sunset.
Before bed, the boys anxiously asked, "Mommy, are we going to the concert tomorrow?"
She nodded.
Reassured, the boys obediently closed their eyes.
Once they were asleep, Roxanne returned to her room. Madilyn's words and Lucian's recent actions swirled in her mind, leaving her confused and conflicted. She had trouble falling asleep.
Her troubled state caused her to wake early. After a while, she mentally prepared herself, rose, and began preparing breakfast for the children.
As she cooked, the doorbell rang. Roxanne hesitated; she suspected who it was and was reluctant to answer. The ringing persisted.
Awakened by the doorbell, the boys sleepily emerged from their room. Thinking Roxanne was still asleep, they tiptoed downstairs.
They found her in the kitchen. "Mommy?" Archie and Benny exchanged puzzled glances, wondering why she wasn't answering the door.
Roxanne, snapping out of her reverie, met their confused gazes and forced a calm smile. "Go wash up. I'll get the door."
The boys, without question, returned to their room.
Roxanne steadied herself before approaching the door.
"Ms. Jarvis!" Estella's cheerful voice greeted her.
Roxanne focused on the little girl. Estella was clearly dressed up. Her long hair was tied with a large white ribbon, though a stray strand was caught in the bow. She wore a white tutu, looking like a little angel.
Estella looked up at Roxanne, beaming. Meeting Estella's gaze eased Roxanne's stress.
