Chapter 733: Waiting for Her Response
Jonathan smiled knowingly when he heard his friendโs words. โYou canโt come alone. My grandpa is helping Dr. Jarvis, so you must bring her.โ
Lucian chuckled lightly. โI plan to.โ
After a brief conversation, they hung up. Lucian returned to the living room. Roxanne had finished dinner and was sitting at the dining table with the children, awaiting his arrival.
A warm feeling flickered in Lucianโs eyes at the sight. He approached the table and, noticing the extra place setting, asked knowingly, โDid you prepare this for me, Ms. Jarvis?โ
Roxanne nodded gently. โSince Iโm asking you to drive Archie and Benny to and from school for the next few days, Mr. Farwell, dinnerโs on me.โ
Before Lucian could reply, Estella exclaimed joyfully, โThank you, Ms. Jarvis!โ
Roxanne smiled, feeling more relaxed as she watched the girlโs delight. Estellaโs response prompted Lucian to raise an eyebrow, but he said nothing, simply picking up his fork.
After dinner, the little girl was reluctant to leave. Since it was still early, Roxanne and Lucian let the children play.
After clearing the dining room, Roxanne found Lucian on the couch, his brow furrowed, his slender fingers massaging his temples. He appeared to have a headache.
Remembering his recent insomnia, she hesitantly approached and said softly, โLet me give you a massage. It might help your insomnia.โ
Lucian withdrew his hand and looked at her. โIf youโre doing this because I helped you today, forget it.โ He didnโt want her kindness to be merely reciprocation.
His words brought a frown to Roxanneโs face. For a moment, she was unsure how to respond; she couldnโt even recall why she offered. Yet, seeing his slightly weary face stirred a strange feeling in her heart.
Lucian frowned silently, awaiting her reply. There was no immediate response.
Just as he was about to speak again, her hands rested on his temples, softly massaging. His eyes darkened, but he remained silent.
He mused, With Roxanne's personality, if she only intended to repay the favor, she wouldn't have offered a massage after hearing my response. This shows it's more than just reciprocation. This is enough for me.
He couldnโt deny the relief her ministrations brought to his insomnia-induced headache. He even felt drowsy.
Feeling sleepiness encroaching, he grabbed her wrist, pulling her hand down. Roxanne was startled.
โAs expected of a top traditional medicine doctor. My headache is much better,โ Lucian said, rising from the couch. โItโs late. I should take Estella home. Iโll pick up Archie and Benny in the morning.โ
Roxanne nodded slightly, watching him walk toward the backyard. Shortly after, Estella, led by her father, bid Roxanne farewell. Roxanne smiled at the little girl and followed them to the car. Only after Lucianโs car had driven away did she return inside.
