Chapter 734: Quick Turnaround
That very night, the Queen family announced Roxanne as Alfred's savior, leading to his nomination of her for the Damaris family project. The internet exploded with the news. Many who initially opposed Roxanne now rallied to her side, though some remained skeptical.
Roxanne was astonished by this sudden development before bed. She'd considered asking Alfred for help but hesitated to involve him. However, the Queen family's unsolicited support significantly improved her situation, despite lingering doubts.
Unwilling to disturb Alfred, Roxanne called Jonathan. He'd just finished handling his family's public relations when she reached him.
"I just saw your family's announcement. Thank you for speaking up for me, Mr. Queen," she said gratefully.
Jonathan chuckled. "Don't just thank me. I took significant risks. I wouldn't have spoken up solely for your sake."
Roxanne paused, recalling a similar tone from their consultation at the orphanage. She'd thanked him then, assuming he'd helped, when it was actually Lucian's decision. Had Lucian intervened again?
"Did Lucian contact you?" she asked.
Jonathan laughed. "That's right. I considered action, but Lucian's call convinced me to make the announcement. So, if you're expressing gratitude, he deserves it, too."
Conflict arose in Roxanne's heart. The balcony call while she made dinnerโit was to Mr. Queen, asking for his help. He likely would have kept it from her without Mr. Queen's explanation. She felt bewildered.
"I will, Mr. Queen. Thank you," she said, concealing her emotions. "I'll thank Old Mr. Queen personally later."
Jonathan agreed warmly.
After hanging up, Roxanne opened her chat with Lucian, but couldn't compose a message. She eventually put her phone away.
At the Hightower residence, Stephen believed Lucian would let them off after his daughter's apology and Roxanne's forgiveness. However, the situation remained dire, with companies canceling joint projects for various reasons. By night, companies were bluntly stating Lucian's orders to sever ties. Stephen remained silent.
Only after hanging up did he realize something was wrong. He went upstairs and knocked on Jessica's door. She was staring grimly at her phone.
"It's only been a day! I planned so long, and everything's reversed? Even the Queen family supports her! What's so special about her?"
