Chapter 790: There Is Still a Possibility

After ending the call, Roxanne went downstairs to prepare dinner for the children. Archie and Benny were playing with Lego on the carpet. They exchanged a glance upon seeing their mother but didn't bombard her with questions.

"I have work tomorrow night. Aunt Madilyn will be keeping you company," Roxanne explained over dinner.

The boys looked puzzled. "Why do you have to leave at night? Is it a business event?"

Roxanne, who never hid her work from them, patiently replied, "There are new developments on the project I'm working on with Mr. Damaris. I need to attend a contract signing."

Archie and Benny exchanged another look. "Will Mr. Damaris be there too?"

Roxanne nodded. "Mr. Damaris will be with me."

A strange expression crossed their faces. "What's wrong?" she asked.

They quickly shook their heads, then asked, "Mommy, will you let Mr. Damaris be our daddy?"

Looking at their earnest faces, Roxanne thought of Lucian. Their question, though different from his, was fundamentally the same. Their wary glances suggested they knew more than they let on.

She asked tentatively, "Do you want Mr. Damaris to be your daddy?"

Archie and Benny were speechless. Their silence hinted at a possibility that worried Roxanne. To avoid suspicion, however, they forced innocent smiles. "We'll listen to you, Mommy! You'll definitely find a great daddy for us!"

Roxanne, still unsure, nodded, forgetting to explain her relationship with Jack.

During the meal, the boys' subdued demeanor worried Roxanne. She couldn't quite place it, but their unenthusiastic eating seemed unusual.

"Mommy, we're full! We'll head upstairs!" They quickly shoved down some food and jumped from their chairs. Their hasty departure added to Roxanne's confusion. They usually ate more.

Realizing their nervousness, they offered an excuse: "We didn't sleep well last night. We're tired." They looked dazed.

Roxanne, remembering the previous night's events, accepted their explanation without much thought. Yet, their brisk ascent of the stairs contradicted their claim of exhaustion.
