Chapter 791: A Secret To Tell You

Archie and Benny raced to their room after heading upstairs. "Archie," Benny asked hesitantly, "Mommy's meeting Mr. Damaris tomorrow. Should we tell Daddy?"

After considering, Archie said, "We have to." They'd kept it secret earlier to stress Lucian about Roxanne's relationship with Jack. However, Roxanne's earlier attitude terrified them. What if Mommy really chose Mr. Damaris? That thought ended their secrecy. Benny gloomily asked, "But how do we tell Daddy?"

They couldn't contact Lucian directly; they had no phone. Roxanne was leaving tomorrow night, and they didn't know if Lucian would visit.

Troubled, Archie and Benny pondered the difficult question. After a while, Archie whispered something in Benny's ear, and Benny nodded firmly.

They quickly washed and lay in bed, though it was early. Roxanne checked on them later, finding them seemingly asleep. She thought they'd simply had a restless night and her suspicions eased.

Unbeknownst to her, Archie and Benny were pretending. Eyes closed, they listened intently to sounds outside their door.

Only when Roxanne's footsteps were barely audible did they slip out of bed. Watching the clock, they waited until just before midnight, when Roxanne was likely asleep, before tiptoeing downstairs.

Reaching the corded telephone, they cautiously glanced at Roxanne's room. Seeing her lights off, they dialed Lucian's number. Despite lacking their own phones, they'd memorized his number.

They'd worried Lucian wouldn't answer so late, but he picked up almost immediately.

"What happened?" Lucian, working in his study, had seen Roxanne's earlier call, fearing she was in trouble. He was startled by Archie and Benny's voices. "Mr. Farwell," Archie said, "we have a secret to tell you."

Lucian frowned. "What secret?"

The children stated plainly, "Mommy says she's attending a contract signing ceremony with Mr. Damaris tomorrow night."

A grim look crossed Lucian's face. Despite Roxanne's explanations about her relationship with Jack, he remained uneasy. Every time she went out with him, something bad happened. First, Jessica's harassment; then, the public scrutiny.

"Did you hear us, Mr. Farwell?" Archie and Benny asked when Lucian didn't respond.

Snapping back to attention, Lucian, realizing the children's clandestine call, replied solemnly, "Got it. Thank you."

The children, saying nothing more, quickly ended the call. Benny erased the call history before they crept back to their room.
