Chapter 875: I'm Sorry

Back at the Pearson residence, Aubree returned to her room after sending the message. She was unsure of Sonya's reaction, but confident Sonya's opinion of Roxanne would be irrevocably damaged.

Downstairs, Gina hesitated, wondering if she should contact Sonya and exacerbate the situation. Just as she picked up her phone to call, the doorbell rang.

Gina answered the door, surprised to find Sonya standing there. "Where's Aubree?" Sonya asked, her smile a careful mask over her anger.

Gina, finally understanding the reason for the visit, felt a surge of smugness. After a moment, she indicated Aubree's upstairs room. "She came back early this morning and went up. She seems upset, but I didn't dare ask."

Sonya felt a pang of apology.

Gina, feigning ignorance, inquired, "Did Aubree and Lucian fight again? I asked, but she wouldn't tell me anything."

Sonya forced a smile at the mention of Lucian. "As long as I'm here, I won't let Lucian bully Aubree. Don't worry." She hesitated to comment on whether they had actually argued; their interactions were infrequent and brief. How could they have even fought?

"I'll go check on Aubree," Sonya said, cutting off further questioning, and started upstairs. Gina followed.

Aubree was considering her next move with the photos when a knock came, followed by her mother's voice. "Aubree, don't be angry anymore. Mrs. Farwell is here."

While seemingly comforting, the words served as a warning about her demeanor towards Sonya.

Aubree understood. Quickly putting away her phone, she adopted an aggrieved expression before opening the door. "Mrs. Farwell, what brings you here? You could have called," she said, her eyes feigning concern. "I would have come to you."

Aubree ushered Sonya into her room and sat on the bed. Sonya's heart ached at Aubree's unhappiness and thoughtful words. "I'm sorry," she said.

Aubree, inwardly smug, maintained an innocent, surprised expression. "Mrs. Farwell, why are you saying that?"

Sonya sighed. "It must have been difficult for you all these years. But don't worry. I will never let anyone marry into the Farwell family except you!"

Aubree feigned emotion. "Mrs. Farwell, you've said that many times. I've always believed you and am grateful. Did something happen?"

Sonya frowned, sighing again. "It's about Roxanne. I thought she'd only abandoned her husband and children. I can't believe she evenโ€ฆ"

Remembering Roxanne's nature and Lucian's unwavering affection, Sonya felt shame. Her cheeks flushed. "Let's change the subject. If she marries into the Farwell family, we'll be utterly humiliated!"

Aubree's eyes flashed coldly, but imperceptibly. She offered comfort, avoiding further inquiry.
