Chapter 880: Fury

Colby's expression shifted repeatedly. After a long moment, he said awkwardly, "This is Dr. Jarvis's privacy, Mr. Damaris. I only mentioned it because I thought you knew. It seems you don't, so let's drop it."

Jack raised his eyebrows, his dubious gaze revealing his thoughts.

Colby felt a jolt of embarrassment. However, he knew currying favor with the Damaris family was crucial for his career aspirations, mirroring Roxanne's success. Suppressing his discomfort, he recounted his history with Roxanne: "I met Dr. Jarvis while she was abroad; we collaborated extensively. After returning home, I expected to lose contact, but she returned shortly after. She even co-founded this research institute with me." He subtly observed Jack's reaction. "Though she's only been back a short time, we've worked together on many projects."

He emphasized his closeness to Roxanne, aiming to leverage their connection with the Damaris family while simultaneously bolstering his earlier statements.

Jack listened impassively, then smiled. "So, Dr. Galloway, I gather you're quite close to Ms. Jarvis."

Colby smiled faintly but remained silent.

Jack continued, "Yet your relationship appears strictly professional. You don't seem to interact much outside of work."

Colby stiffened. It was true. He'd known Roxanne for a period no shorter than Jack, yet had only visited her once, delivering medicine and remaining in her courtyard. He'd only met her children a few times abroad, never since returning home. In contrast, Jack seemed close to the children, even aware of their illnesses.

Jealousy simmered within Colby as he contrasted their relationships.

"It's late," Jack said, unfazed by Colby's inner turmoil. "Dr. Galloway, I must be going." He bid farewell, entered his car, and drove away.

Despite the Damaris family's medical prominence, Jack, a businessman at heart, easily deciphered Colby's emotions.

Watching Jack depart, Colby snapped out of his reverie. Fury filled his eyes. He refused to believe Jack hadn't understood his intentions. He felt Jack had knowingly chosen not to interfere, allowing Colby to continue speaking, observing him with amusement. Infuriated by this perceived manipulation, Colby slammed his fist against the research institute wall.
