Chapter 881: Denied Entry
On the drive home, images of Lucian and Estella filled Roxanne's mind. After a long period of unease, she clenched her fist to regain composure. Before the Herbscape Group situation concluded, there was no evidence implicating Lucian, and certainly nothing to suggest he acted on her behalf; thus, she had no reason to feel guilty. Having convinced herself, she finally let the matter rest. Estella remained her sole concern. She wondered how the little girl was, if she was still crying, and if Lucian had brought her to look for Roxanne.
Roxanne repeatedly checked her phone for missed calls or messages, but found nothing. "Sir, please drive a little faster," she urged, disappointment coloring her voice. The driver obliged. Twenty minutes later, they arrived at her home. She quickly exited the car and entered the mansion.
Archie and Benny, hearing the sounds outside, rushed to the door, expecting Lucian and Estella. They had waited patiently on the couch since Roxanne's departure. Their anticipation, however, turned to worry upon seeing their mother.
"Mommy, are you done with your work?" they asked, noticing her grim expression.
Roxanne scanned the living room, seeing only her sons. Crestfallen and disoriented, she whispered, "Didn't Essie come?"
Archie and Benny exchanged glances, unable to tell their mother the truth. Roxanne always worried more about Estella than them.
"Maybe Mr. Farwell is busy and they'll come later!" Archie offered, attempting to console her.
Roxanne managed a smile, but her worry remained palpable. Archie and Benny watched with concern as their mother lingered at the doorway, seemingly hesitant to enter. They wondered if she had forgotten something or if there was another reason.
"Mommy, let's go inside," Benny said softly.
Roxanneโs hesitation gave way to a decision. "I'll go to Mr. Farwell's house and check. You stay here and wait for me."
"We want to go with you!" Archie and Benny declared in unison. They shared her anxiety and didn't believe she should drive alone in her current state.
Roxanne, understanding their concern, reassured them with a smile. "Both of you stay here. Tell me if Essie arrives."
After a brief hesitation, the boys nodded. Roxanne stroked their heads, watched them close the door, and drove to the Farwell residence, a deep unease settling over her. She wondered if Estella was even home, and if she would be allowed entry.
