Chapter 966: Your Wedding With Lucian

Cory, lowering his guard, noticed he was being followed. A seasoned investigator accustomed to surveillance, he immediately recognized the tail. He knew Lucian wouldn't easily let him go; he must be desperate for information. A slight smirk touched Cory's lips. He quickly assessed the men and their hiding places, then casually continued walking, pretending nothing was amiss.

Now aware of the surveillance, Cory had to be cautious, avoiding any compromise. He still held a valuable bargaining chip: the photograph of Aubree.

For several days, Cory avoided contacting Aubree to avoid arousing suspicion. Aubree, receiving no updates since Roxanne's camping trip, grew concerned. She tried contacting him, unsuccessfully. She realized something was wrong. Cory was a top investigator, known for his avarice; he wouldn't disappear without reason, especially since she hadn't paid him in full. They must have discovered his identity.

A jolt of fear ran through Aubree. She gritted her teeth and deleted his number. Roxanne, she doubted, was perceptive enough to expose him. Only Lucian possessed that capability. His continued investigation would inevitably lead back to her. The potential consequences loomed large.

Aubree's anxiety mounted with Cory's unavailability. She decided to act. "I don't know how close Lucian is to the truth, but I can't remain idle!"

That afternoon, Aubree descended the stairs, carrying a bag.

"Where are you going, Aubree?" Gina asked from the living room.

Aubree paused. "I'm visiting Mrs. Farwell."

Gina nodded approvingly. "Good. You've kept your distance since returning. I didn't think that was wise." She gathered more gifts. "These are for Mrs. Farwell. I prepared them earlier; please give them to her."

Aubree snorted at her mother's blatant attempt to curry favor with the Farwells.

Gina continued, "Be nice to Mrs. Farwell. Her approval is crucial for your wedding with Lucian."

"Yes, yes, yes," Aubree muttered, annoyed, slamming the car door.

Gina watched her daughter drive away, perplexed. "What's wrong with her? Why the outburst?"

Aubree drove to the Farwell residence, her mind racing. I need to find a way to mention Roxanne to Mrs. Farwell.

Aubree knew Sonya was sympathetic, but she wouldn't act without prompting. Even Sonya's previous intervention against Roxanne had been instigated by Aubree. What can I say to provoke Mrs. Farwell's anger towards Roxanne?

She remained undecided even upon arriving. The butler greeted her, took her bags, and led her inside. Aubree followed, her eyes dark and inscrutable.
