Chapter 998: Do Not Pressure Yourself

After receiving her children's blessings, Roxanne headed to the garage. Although Jack had come to pick her up, she preferred to drive herself. More importantly, she wanted to avoid upsetting her sons or causing any misunderstandings. Jack watched silently as she drove away. Smiling, he started his own car and followed.

The two arrived at the research institute separately. Damaris Group staff were unloading medicinal herbs at the main entrance, where Colby awaited them. His expression darkened when he saw them arrive in separate cars. Jack, exiting his car first, greeted Colby, "Thanks for your hard work, Dr. Galloway." Then, striding toward the entrance, he left Colby to greet Roxanne.

Colby, regaining his composure, asked casually, "Mr. Damaris, Dr. Jarvis... ?" Roxanne's house was in the opposite direction from the Damaris residence. Their simultaneous arrival from the same direction led Colby to suspect Jack had visited Roxanne that morning. If so, he thought, they were becoming too close. Jack, however, merely arched a brow and let the matter drop, although Colby correctly guessed Roxanne had declined a ride. This eased Colby's concerns.

Roxanne quickly joined them, apologizing, "Sorry, I'm late." Colby reassured her, "There's little to do beyond supervising the delivery; especially since these are from the Damaris Group, I can handle this alone." He glanced at Jack, who nodded in agreement.

The delivery was nearly complete by the time Roxanne arrived. The herbs were quickly transferred to storage. Roxanne, having learned from past experience, had improved the storage rooms with fireproof materials, yet still worried. She needed to inspect everything personally.

Colby remarked, "I bet the Damaris family spent a fortune on these herbs." Roxanne instinctively looked at Jack. She knew from their previous conversation that the Damaris family had paid generously, though she didn't know the exact amount. Colby's comment intensified her curiosity.

Jack chuckled, "It's a favor; money is secondary. Please accept them gladly."

Roxanne replied seriously, frowning, "I'll make full use of these herbs and ensure the Damaris family's generosity isn't wasted." For a family like the Damarises, relationships were paramount. She felt a responsibility to maximize the herbs' value.

Jack patted her shoulder reassuringly, nodding. "Don't pressure yourself too much."

Roxanne remained serious. Exasperated, Jack reminded her, "Didn't you say you'd treat me to a meal to show your appreciation?"
