Listen to this chapter:

Clad in a simple white bathrobe, Kieran descended the stairs to find the fridge stocked with several simple dishes. However, he immediately knew they werenโ€™t Freyaโ€™s cooking. At that moment, his mind wandered back to when Freya stayed with the Sutton family, crafting varied and delicious meals thrice a day, fearing he might lose his appetite. Whether he ate or not often depended on his mood.

But it seemed like begging wouldnโ€™t even get Freya to cook! The thought made him lose his appetite, and he wound up shutting the fridge door with a flick of his wrist.

Noticing the situation, Jarrett inquired, โ€œMr. Sutton, donโ€™t these dishes suit your taste?โ€

โ€œWhat do you think?โ€ Kieranโ€™s mood was sour.

Jarrett was puzzled. That couldnโ€™t be right. Mr. Sutton always relished Linseyโ€™s cooking. What had changed so suddenly?

โ€œMr. Sutton, how about I order some takeout for you?โ€

โ€œNo need.โ€ Frowning, Kieran asked, โ€œHas Freya eaten anything tonight?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t think so.โ€

โ€œCall her down for dinner.โ€

โ€œButโ€ฆโ€ Jarrett intended to suggest Freya wasnโ€™t likely hungry, but one look from Kieran made him ascend the stairs without further question.

Freya was still in her room, directing others in their tasks. Jarrett approached and said, โ€œMs. Dawson, Mr. Sutton is calling you down for dinner.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m skipping dinner.โ€ Freyaโ€™s voice was indifferent.

When she was with the Sutton family, dinners were an excuse to spend more time with Kieran. Given Kieranโ€™s stomach issues, timely meals were necessary for him. Freya, however, wasnโ€™t bound by such needs. She was used to two meals daily, skipping dinner to maintain her figure.

Jarrett was aware of this, yet Kieran remained clueless.

โ€œMs. Dawson, Mr. Sutton seems to prefer your homemade meals. Maybeโ€ฆโ€ Jarrettโ€™s hint was more than clear.

In a tone neither warm nor cold, Freya replied, โ€œIโ€™ve said this before coming here. Iโ€™m not a servant of the Sutton family. I agreed to come, but I wonโ€™t cook.โ€

โ€œMs. Dawsonโ€ฆโ€

โ€œMaybe I should just get out of here. Feels like thereโ€™s not much point in me sticking around.โ€

Upon hearing this, Jarrett panicked, โ€œMs. Dawson, forget I said it! Iโ€™ll relay your message to Mr. Sutton.โ€ Fearful of Freya changing her mind, he quickly returned to Kieran.

โ€œSkipping dinner?โ€ Kieran found it amusing. When Freya was with the Sutton family, she never missed a dinner. And she suddenly decided to skip?

โ€œIs Freya trying to be contrary to me on purpose?โ€ asked Kieran.

When hearing that, Jarrett couldnโ€™t help but say, โ€œMr. Sutton, Ms. Dawson used to skip dinner.โ€

When Freya was with the Sutton family, she wouldnโ€™t have dinner unless Kieran was home. She would only cook for Audrey. There was only one instance when Freya prepared a late-night snack, which Kieran had discarded.

Frowning, Kieran asked, โ€œShe doesnโ€™t eat dinner, and you know this how?โ€

โ€œMr. Sutton, Linsey mentioned it before. When you werenโ€™t home at night, Ms. Dawson only prepared meals for Mrs. Sutton. Ms. Dawson made a late-night snack once, but you threw it away.โ€
