Chapter 365

In a no-go zone where not a single car dared to tread, Preston ignored the police cars barricading the way and slammed the accelerator, zooming past them. Freya, who had just unbuckled her seatbelt, was nearly thrown forward by the sudden surge of power.

โ€œYou might want to buckle up unless you fancy a concussion,โ€ Preston advised, a hint of amusement in his voice.

โ€œYou!โ€ Freya snapped her seatbelt back into place almost instantly upon his warning.

The police cars, taken aback by Prestonโ€™s audacity to break through, were even more determined now. As Prestonโ€™s car hit the main streets, additional police units joined the fray, causing severe congestion. This was downtown, the heart of the cityโ€™s hustle and bustle. A spectacle here would undoubtedly make the morning headlines. Surrounded by police cars, Freya could only think one thing: they were utterly doomed.

She was swamped with regret for getting mixed up with Preston, a guy way more powerful and trouble-making than sheโ€™d thought. The never-ending honking from the other cars, all pushing for Prestonโ€™s ride to get a move on, just boosted the mayhem. The cops were now trying to pry open the doors of Prestonโ€™s car.

Looking at the faces behind the car window, Freya felt a knot of anxiety. She hoped this wouldnโ€™t escalate further, praying it wouldnโ€™t end up as a highlight on the evening news.

Meanwhile, within the offices of The Sutton Group:

โ€œWhat did you say?โ€ Kieran asked, sure heโ€™d misheard.

Freyaโ€™s car was blocked by the police? This was unusual news to him; he hadnโ€™t even known Freya drove, yet here she was, barricaded by police cars in downtown.

โ€œMr. Sutton, itโ€™s true.โ€ Jarrettโ€™s tone was grave. He added, โ€œItโ€™s not just Ms. Dawson. Prestonโ€™s involved too.โ€

The second Prestonโ€™s name came up, Kieranโ€™s vibe switched to frosty real quick.

โ€œPreston?โ€

โ€œYes. The situationโ€™s blown up. There are reporters on the scene. Should we suppress the news?โ€

โ€œWhat do you think? Get on it now!โ€ Kieran was on his feet in seconds.

If this hit the social news, the fallout could be significant. What was Freya thinking? Didnโ€™t she realize the implications?

At the police station, Chief Brennan stood up abruptly upon hearing the news: โ€œWhat? Whose car did they stop? Ms. Dawsonโ€™s?โ€ โ€œAlright, alright. Iโ€™m on it. Immediately. Youโ€™ll have your satisfactory response!โ€

Without even grabbing his coat, Chief Brennan ordered a car and headed straight to the chaos.

โ€œTell them! No aggressive tactics! Iโ€™ll be there shortly.โ€

After issuing his command, Chief Brennan hurried to his car, keenly aware of the urgency. Downtown was already a mess, traffic snarled beyond recognition.

Freya quickly realized Preston had orchestrated this chaos deliberately.

โ€œWhatโ€™s your game?โ€ she said, her voice getting stern. โ€œYouโ€™re deliberately making a scene. Do you actually want to end up on the evening news?โ€
