Luna dashed over to Freya, her voice laced with urgency. “Why are you just getting here now? I’ve been calling you, and you didn’t pick up.”

“What’s going on?” Freya eyed Luna with puzzled concern.

Leaning close, Luna whispered, “Last night, Johanna made a scene right at the school gates. It was a big deal—lots of people saw. By morning, there were rumors all over the school’s social media saying the Dawson family’s hit rock bottom. They’re saying Johanna’s trying to cash in on her daughter again!”

“Cash in… again?” Freya zeroed in on the key phrase.

Nodding vigorously, Luna continued, “Yeah, it’s about Kara. You’re becoming the talk of the school. They’re saying Mr. Sutton dumped her because he wasn’t interested anymore, and then Johanna tried to push her niece into Kieran’s arms. Last night, she was supposedly taking Kara to the Suttons to demand 200 million!”

Hearing the figure, Freya’s eyebrow twitched subtly. Initially, Johanna had borrowed a hundred million. With interest piling up, it had just edged over another hundred million. The fact that she was now demanding 200 million outright hinted that there was more going on behind the scenes. It was all because the year-end was approaching. After Galen had been fired by her, the year-end audit would uncover the embezzlement of several million that Johanna and Jarrett were involved in. No wonder Johanna was so desperate for money.

“It’s fine, let’s not worry about it. The exams are what matter most,” Freya said. Once today’s exam was over, the rest would be water under the bridge. She could finally put one worry to rest.

Freya made her way to her exam seat, noticing the wide berth her peers gave her. Suddenly, the principal, followed by a group of school officials, entered. The principal, looking particularly stern, announced, “Today’s exam will be delayed by ten minutes.”

“Delayed? Why?”

“What’s happening? Is there some kind of emergency?” The students buzzed with speculation.

Freya frowned. Why would the exam be suddenly halted? The room was filled with confused glances, no one knowing what had happened. Eloise and a few who had sneaked into the office to tamper with their papers the day before seemed particularly on edge. Could it be… their deed had been discovered? Eloise clenched her fists, anxious. With the final exams at stake, she couldn’t afford any mistakes.

“Someone among you has cheated! The school’s administration is taking this very seriously. The cheater should come forward for a chance at leniency,” the principal declared, sending a wave of shock through the room and making Eloise even more nervous. Everyone was eager to uncover the mystery.

Freya scanned the room, quickly noticing Eloise’s unnatural demeanor in the back. Freya furrowed her brow. Eloise had always been known for her academic and moral excellence, never involved in cheating. Why would she look so troubled?

“It seems none of you are willing to admit to cheating!” The principal’s tone grew heavier. “This is your last chance to come forward. Otherwise, I’ll have to call you out one by one.”

A few seconds passed in silence. Eventually, the principal began calling names, ramping up the tension amongst the students.
