Everyone quickly pulled out their phones and searched for Emgrand Group's official social media account. The certified account had just posted the latest announcement! Claire Wilson had won the contract!
Harold was shocked and filled with regret. Before today, Claire had approached him about the contract. Had he accepted it, he wouldn't have given Claire the chance to shine, regardless of the outcome! But he'd refused because he feared failure. He refused, but Claire succeeded! It was a slap in the face.
Immediately, Lady Wilson excitedly picked up the contract and began reading it. She laughed aloud. "Excellent!"
Claire Wilson said, "It's all thanks to Miss Doris Young. She thinks highly of the Wilson family."
Claire wanted to be truthful, but she didn't actually know who the chairman of Emgrand Group was. It was no wonder she'd won the contract! Doris Young herself thought highly of the Wilsons!
Just then, Charlie Wade said, "Harold, do you still remember our bet?"
Harold's face contorted in a grimace. How could he forget? The loser had to grovel at the winner's feet. Claire had won, so he had lost "No! No way! I won't eat dirt at that loser's feet! Over my dead body!"
He gritted his teeth and sneered. "Charlie Wade, who do you think you are? You're just a useless toy boy who married into our family! Do you expect me to bow before you?"
Charlie Wade said flatly, "Yes, I'm a useless toy boy, but remember, we made a bet yesterday." A dark cloud covered Lady Wilson's face.
She glared at Harold and asked coldly, "What about it? Do you want me to die?"
Harold panicked. "Grandma, don't fall for his trick! He just wants to embarrass me and ridicule you!"
Charlie Wade said steadily, "Harold, don't try to fool Grandmother. Do you want to curse Grandmother?"
"Grandma, we were just kidding; you can't take it seriously!"
Lady Wilson said impassively, "You know I'm a devout Buddhist. How dare you break your vow after swearing to God?!"
"Grandma" Harold panicked. His grandmother was truly angry!
Seeing Harold's unwillingness to uphold his promise, Lady Wilson slammed the table and shouted, "Are you determined to break your vow now?!"
"Grandma, I" Harold faltered. If he admitted defeat to Charlie Wade, he'd lose face. But if he defied the bet and angered his grandmother, he'd lose everything in the Wilson familyโmore than just face!
Reluctantly, he gritted his teeth and muttered, "Alright! I'll keep my promise!"
Charlie Wade smiled, waiting for him to kneel. Harold felt as if his legs were lead. He moved slowly toward Charlie Wade.
Harold bowed his head and said in a loud, trembling voice, "I'm sorry!" He leaned over and knocked his head against the floor.
Charlie Wade said, "What did you say? I can't hear you. Speak louder and clearer."
Enduring the humiliation, Harold bowed again and shouted, "I'm sorry!"
Charlie Wade sneered, "Oh, you're sorry. What are you sorry for?"
Harold wanted to kill Charlie Wade, but there was one last bow. He bit his lip and said, "I shouldn't have doubted Claire Wilson's abilities" Another bow.
Charlie Wade felt a surge of exhilaration. He'd held a grudge against Harold for a long time. Seeing Harold kneeling and confessing felt incredibly satisfying. Claire watched in awe, realizing her husband was different. She couldn't quite define the difference. Remembering Charlie's confident demeanor when he made the bet, she wondered if he'd known she would win. Where did he get that confidence?
